I also have a split they did with Alvarius B (Sun City Girls) I don't think it is as good as their other material, but if you are a fan of the band it might be worth while checking out.

Oh, I like it VERY much. It seemed much darker, generally of course, in tone than the other one - but that may have been me [my listening mood that is. only listened once so far, and I only really like to judge after a few listens]... I like Chaiming the Knoblessone the best of what I've heard thus far though. [and I would be interested in checking out the split - thanks for the info BV!] One comment/criticism I do have though [much more on CtheK] is regarding the vocals. the woman's very good, but I thought the guy was a bit hokey. like some hs dude playing w/ a mike. it sort of demeaned it a bit i thought - the silliness of it..although, of course, that may have been their intention [adding some lightness to the general darkness mix...] [i'm hypercritical sometimes too ;)]

I don't think it was just the mood (though I do find them to be very mood orientated music) but their last album does have dark themes running throughout, especially in the lyrical department (thought they might sound like nonsense at times). They really like the use of metaphors. They still hold that sombre sound from their post-rock days. For some reason the guys vocals have never really bothered me. It was something I noticed straight off and I must believe their is some reason behind it, at times they seem to like to act the opposite to what they are conveying (if that makes any sense).

Jacques Thollot

??? don't you mean François Thollot maybe? Jacques is avant/concrete...

well, i think he should definitely be there anyway [François Thollot that is]. Also One Shot & Zypressen too [along w/ what I sd earlier today/yesterday]

Yep I didn't see that one, I think it is probably my fault on this one. When we for started talking about Francois Thollot I got a little mixed up with the similar names (though Jacques is cool as well). I know Zypressen I quite like them, remind me of Lacrymosa (not sure if that is the spelling). Have not heard of One Shot though. The others you suggested before are now on the chart to be voted upon Smile

Let me know if Jacques Thollot should indeed be changed into François Thollot on the chart and I will make the change.

Joren it would probably be for the best if we were to change it Francois as that is the person we should have been talking about. I have "quand le son devient aigu, jeter la girafe a la mer" by Jacques. But it has been too long since I have listened to it to remember if it would be worth while voting on, but I don't remember it being a quite good album.

Done.

So can we call our team now:
Then There were 7... ?

After searching all over the net, I finally ordered from Musea the Abus Dangereux - Le Quatrieme Mouvement. After having a taste of the band, I am looking forward to this.

With the kind guidance of Claire I am pondering over the band Klockwork Orange and there album Abrakadabra. This might not exactly be the band for this thread but this is where is going to get some interest. Is there any information about this band? I have found out they are from Austria but that is about it. When I google only one search came up (which was a Russia forum; my Russian is not good enough to comprehend forum talk). Funnily enough I was listening to a Current 93 track yesterday Killykillkilly which uses some of the music from Clockwork Orange, so the movie has been plaguing me for the past few days. Is there any ties between this band and the movie?

Anyone familiar with this little rarity from France? I'm not sure what genre (other the progressive), has never seen a CD reissue, and is on the good old NWW list.

Heratius - Gwendolyne

I just wanted to stop by and congratulate Listennow801.Thumbs Up

I know I've been off with this thread for some time now and the same thing can be said about RIO/Avant-prog, but it's kind of hard when having 2 completely different genres to take care of.Cry

I'll be back. I promise...

^^^ Assaf you are right about this not being ours, I just thought I would post it hear as it would go pretty much unnoticed if I posted it in other sections. Hopefully we can find a little more information on the band.

At the moment listening to a live "Les Granules" concert, which is some very impressive material. Here is the line-up for the show:

René Lussier, Jean Derome, Fred Frith
Les Granules - LG15
Spectrum, Montréal, 7 nov. 1990

Cha-cha-cha (Derome)
Coucou Suite (Lussier)
7 Danses pour 15 (Derome)

René Lussier: g., b.
Jean Derome: saxes, flûte
Fred Frith: b., vln
Claude Fradette: g.
Mathieu Bélanger: bass clarinet
Jean-Denis Levasseur: soprano sax, flûte
Alain Trudel: trombone
Bob Ellis: trombone, tuba
Eric Awig: tp., flh
Rémi Bolduc: alto sax
Allan Laforest: flûtes
Shannon Pete: basson
Bob Ostertag: sampler
Pierre Tanguay: dr.
Michel Dupire: perc

Great stuff which everyone should have a listen to!

So Joren or Assaf - in my 'welcome aboard' note from Tony, he said I should ask one of you to 'show me the ropes.' Any volunteers?

A PM was sent to you by yours truly.
And also on any other matter, just ask anyone of the team - Chris (which you know and thinks highly of you), Joren, Trousepress (David), Geck0 (James), Adam and myself.

It is, but I always seem to get caught with forgetting the prices are in Eruo's (always gets me when I am on ebay). I would be getting very excited with some of those if they were in my currency.
