King Crimson made their debut a progressive rock album when progressive rock scene was being built and the kind of music they played wasn't popular.

Dream Theater made metal with virtuosity when there were lots of musicians and bands doing the same thing and getting recognization.

Any doubt?

These comparisons are utterly futile.How can you compare a band like Dreamtheatre to Prog Icons like King Crimson.The mind boggles.KC  are top of the tree by a country mile.

Absolutely no comparrison. Dream Theater isn't innovative or experimental.
King Crimson set the stage and has continued to keep the prog flame alive.
