Topic: Modern Bands Like YES Posted: April 11 2006 at 20:23 |
Can anyone name me any relatively unknown good NEW bands that sound similar to Yes?
I'm not talking about the popular bands like Flower Kings, IQ, Glass Hammer, Spocks Beard, or similar bands that have been around awhile. I know about them (and like them). I'm talking about NEW bands - a few years old at most that have a good symphonic sound like old Yes. They can be retro or modern sounding. Doesn't matter

Best of 2006 that I've heard: PFM-Stati Di Immaginazione Zenit-Surrender (Best "unknown" album) Oaksenham - Conquest of Pacific 2007: Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon La Torre Del Alchimista - Neo

Very difficult question???
Music have changed throughout the years and I think bands with the sound of early Yes have disappeared at all.

You might want to try the Rocket Scientists. Similar to Yes but certainly not a copy. Very good band!!

Also Proto-Kaw and Explorer's Club are good bands that might be considered Yes-like.

Not very similar to Yes, but new and relatively unknown - Moon Safari.

I like both but how can you say Strangefish is similar to Moon Safari??? Strangefish is crunchy, guitar driven symphonic prog, very similar to Magic Pie if you ask me.

THE MARS VOLTA!
|
My avatar is the vocalist of glam rock/brit pop band Suede (aka the London Suede in USA). They were once good before the guitarist left the band. Albums to hear: self titled debut and 'Dog Man Star.'

K2, not really Yes-like, more like Genesis, but if you're looking for newer "70's-style symph prog", they fit the bill
