Topic: Coheed and Cambria Posted: April 16 2006 at 03:06 |
I just got a disc by this band "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV,
Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness", and I am
really digging it, in fact, I'm finding it quite progressive. Now, I'm
a classic prog fan, and still I'm finding this band to be one worthy of
notice. Any comments?
BTW, does the lead singer not sound like Geddy?
Lemme know what you think.

I bought it recently as well (on sale in HMV!).Can't see whats progressive about it.There are a few Rush like moments but 90% of it sounds like a lot of modern heavy rock to me.They are very classy though and the songs are strong.

COHEED AND CAMBRIA NEED TO BE ADDED TO THE ARCHIVES LOL HUGZ B4EVA!!
But seriously, I enjoy this band greatly regardless of whether they're progressive or not...learn to like music people, not genres.

I've only listened to the 'good apollo' album so far, and I really
enjoyed it. The singer has a voice you'll have to get used to, but it
really fits the music in my humble opinion.
Whether it's progressive enough for PA or not: I actually think it's not...
But great music nonetheless!

Coheed and Cambria are very cool. Not prog in the trad sense, but in the sea of crap that we swim in lately at least these guys are trying to do something fresh. I saw them live recently and I thought they were just good solid butt kicking rock. By the way, LIVE, the singer does not sound like the recordings, and certainly nothing like Geddy Lee.

I dont think they are a prog band. on their website they said they want
to include all the aspects of rock n roll from pop to prog, if they
MUST be in the archives put them in related.

They're are really popular, but most kids say that they're an emo band.

But most kids don't know much about music.

True. I consider them prog in the sense there is no one else like them in the main stream right now. On Good Apollo, the last four songs are definatly prog. A lot of time and tempo changes. If you go by what is played on the radio, you aren't hearing the best stuff, because there first hit is the worst song and most generic on the album. I think they are at least prog related, and most agree, (which is why I don't understand why my thread was moved) but no one can deny that it is nice that some good music is getting to the ears of the Mtv crowd.

yeah they classify The Mars Volta as emo too, just because of ATDI. Correct me if I'm wrong, but were either of those two bands lyrics coherent enough to be deemed "emo"? I think not. Same with Coheed. However, if you listen to Second Stage Turbine Blade, it DEFINITELY has that emo sound, and based off this album alone, I would probably not like them nearly as much. However, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 is a fantastic and PROGRESSIVE album. I say add em to the archives as "Prog Related".

Got two C&C albums (I'm missing the debut). Cool stuff. I don't think Claudio sounds THAT much like Geddy.
