"Celestion" is one of the most beautiful instrumental albums ever!

An impressive musicianship. Zappa is one of the first to do "tapping" with the 12 strings acoustic guitar! I like when the acoustic guitar seems to be the bagpipes! Do you?

Excellent mix between acoustic guitars and keyboards.

"Chatka" is another excellent work even if more simple in structure.

P.S.

  1. special guest on "Celestion" : keyboardist Vince Tempera!
  2. special guest on "Chatka" : drummer Tullio de Piscopo!

Another important artist to have included on the site.Wink

No doubt about it Andrea ... based on Celestion and Chatka ... some very nice guitar led instrumentals ... closest comparison ... Mike Oldfield, IMO ...

Now all you need to do is prepare a bio and get the pic! Wink
"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

Based on Celestion and Chatka, he is worthy of being here.

I promised to write a bio for Zappa. The main probleam is the english language. Hope it's enough.

Riccardo Zappa was born in Forlì (Italy) in 1951 and is recognized by many as the greatest italian acoustic guitarist. For five consecutive years he was voted the best in the generl poll promoted by the famous monthly magazine “Guitar Club”. After that, he was declared to be no more votable.

He was a student of Miguel Ablioniz, one of the greatest classic guitarists of all time, he continued his research, even in electronic instruments and in all the new technologies to be applied to the sound. He was able to forge with delicacy and precision an elegant fusion between classic and modern music like no other did in Italy. His music is in fact an unicum in the whole italian prog scene.

His unmistakable trade mark is the “Ovation” guitar, an instrument with a remarkable nasal sound, useful to be handled with special effects. After the first three albums, he added to his usual instruments also a twelve-strings “Bozo” guitar with which he extended the musical' spectrum toward more refined and polished results.
His first work, “Auhlela & Zappa” was realized in 1974 as a duo with lyrics and vocals by Klaus Auhlela. After three years of silence, he began his solo career with the album “Celestion” (1977) where the confluences between classic (acoustic) and modern (electronic) apperar to be clearer. It is still now considered his best work. In 1978 it was released “Chatka”, in a very similar vein with the remarkable and famous opener “Emphasis” which is inspired by Juan Maria Da Crema, XVI century's lute player. “Chatka” becam soon very popular in Italy and is still now one of the most successful instrumental works ever released. On of the first example of “tapping” with an acoustic guitar. All these two solo albums were recorded in Zappa' own studio named “La Camera Incantata” (The Enchanted Chamber).
From 1980 album “Trasparenze” he was joyned by Pietro Pellegrini (ALPHATAURUS) on synth and keyboards. On the cover the twelve strings guitar he started to use with this album.
From the nineties on, he started to wrote operas for bass, mandolin and harp, helped by the increasing fame of the New Age movement.
Riccardo Zappa is very appreciated and has collaborated with many other italian artists such as Eros Ramazzotti in a 115 dates european tournée. He also collaborated with Mina, Giorgio Gaber, Antonello Venditti, Fiorella Mannoia, Eugenio Finardi and many more.
His albums and cds are very difficult to find. Fortunately Zappa has now his own web site (www.riccardozappa.it) from which you can order albums and music's score.

Back IT... Great work, Andrea! Thumbs Up You can post a proposal for inclusion in the Collabs section, saying that you have written the bio - then I can post it on the site.
