Anyone knows the exact release date for Procol Harum's 1968 album "Shine on brightly"?
 
The Nice released the "Ars longa vita brevis" suite in November 1968 and I was wondering if this deserves the "First symphonic prog Epic" tag rather than Procol Harum's "In Held Twas In I"? 
 
Recording and release dates for these epics/suites?

All I've been able to find is that the PH release was reviewed in the December issue of Rolling Stone, which probbaly puts the release dates very close together.....

Can anyone confirm that "Shone On Brightly" was indeed released in December 1968?
 
And what about the recording dates for "In Held..." and "Ars longa..."?

As a Procol fan of 35+ years I can confirm that Shine on Brightly was releasesd in early December 1968, 'In Held' having been recorded, apparently in one take, sometime in late October 1968 (or so the story goes). 
 
According to Gary Brooker, the vast majority of Procol's tracks were done live in the studio, usually in one take, to create in effect 'live' studio albums. I believe that 'The Worm And The Tree' is one of the few 'multi-trackers' that they did - it's also their worst song IMHO. What a waste of 20 minutes! Shocked

Having just finished the book Beyond The Pale, Shine on Brightly was releasedin the UK in -dec 68, but released in the US in Sept 68 and Germany in oct 68
 
Still a fave track of mine, but on that album, thete is another real masterpiece: Skip Away My Moonbeams >> fantastic also
