Soundgarden easily. Lots of prog influence and a singer who could rip your face off w/ his voice.

Soundgarden were incredibly good. I also like very much Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam. Nirvana were good but I prefer more complex music than theirs.
Stone Temple Pilots were good also.

Soundgarden had everything;

grunge, metal, alternative, (some) punk

lots of energy, dramatic subject matter, very dark themes

Silliness edited out. Grunge is great, though Nirvana is overrated.

Eleven. They kill all of the above except for Soundgarden and AiC in every aspect you care to name, and they co-wrote most of Chris Cornell's five-star solo album.

Undeservedly overlooked.
