None of them are considered prog by this site (I don't think) but lets hear it nonetheless for:

Joni Mitchell
Laurie Anderson
Bjork
PJ Harvey

All absolutely have elements of progressive music in their work.

So much music. So little time.

Well, Ofur, this topic is about women in PROGRESSIVE MUSIC so Grace Slick Hug
belongs here. By the way, how can I forget Ars Nova, I have seen these outstanding Japanese ladies on the Dutch Pul Festival in Uden, some slightly overheated progheads were screaming 'backstage' Big smile ....
And Interpose is worth to check out Thumbs Up , a very promising Japanese band!

PJ Harvey? I have to vehemently disagree on both the Proginess and the attractiveness.

Tarja (Nightwish) wasn't mentioned so far. Maybe not that progressive in comparison with others, but since they are in progarchives.com, no one can deny it. Approve

Can you believe that there is one band from Japan playing complex prog almost as good as  Il Balletto di Bronzo with decent material and they all are women?
Yes, that´s true and they are ARS NOVA and they  have at least two exellent LPs on Black Widow Records: The Book of Death and Android Domina with beautiful cover.
If you are into that kind of stuff I strongly recommend these records! Have a interesting journey to the world of ARS NOVA.Wink

In RIO/Avant prog and Zeuhl there are plenty:
  • Lindsay Cooper - Henry Cow
  • Georgie Born - Henry Cow
  • Dagmar - Henry Cow
  • Stella Vander - Magma
  • Zeena Parkins - News From Babel/Skeleton Crew (also on Bjork - Vespertine)
  • Patricia Diallo - Art Zoyd
  • Kanazawa Miyako - Koenjihyakkei
  • Yamamoto Kyoko - Koenjihyakkei
  • Komori Keiko - Koenjihyakkei

To name but a few - mostly instrumentalists/composers, btw.

to the already rich among us...'
