As I`ve probably mentioned a few times on this forum my wife teaches music and she actually likes some of the bands I listen to, such as Gentle Giant, Focus, Curved Air etc. However, there are certain bands that will absolutely drive her bananas. Some of these freakout bands are good examples. My favourites are Guru Guru and Brainticket. Anyone out there listen to this genre of "Prog"?Comments?

I have to agree with Joren. Mother's, in hard contest with Captain Beefheart. From the list, since I haven't heard any of the Krautrock yet (I know I should!), Hawkind is the only solution..

Well, my definition of freakout would be long unstructured pieces featuring conventional instruments with loads of effects heavily ispired by illicit drug use played at extremely high volume with little vocals.  UFO by Guru Guru for me was the freakiest freakout album for me!

Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict!

You're right! But I still think early Zappa is freakier!
