Topic: king's x ......should they be added? Posted: June 04 2006 at 21:30 |
I am a huge King's X fan, and feel that they are extremely progressive
and creative, though they might not fit under the "definition" of
progressive for many people on this site. But songs like "Pleidedes"
off of Gretchen Goes to Nebraska (1989) are extremely progressive, and
the band just has an amazing sense of good songwriting. Any thoughts?

King's X is an excellent band, and they have many quality progressive traits. That said, I don't know if they belong on this site or not. But considering some of the other bands on here, I think they deserve a shot. |

Yay, there's more than one King's X fan on here. I was just preparing the necessary information to send off to Horza and Co. for a consideration to have King's X added. Just like Masque pointed out, if the likes of Queen, Purple and The Beatles are here, King's X is a more than worthy candidate for serious consideration.

I was actually to post a topic about King's X until I saw this I was not even aware that they were not included here. Before I got into the progressive movement I heard so much about King's X and how "progressive" they are, how complicated their songs are, ect ect. Personally though I don't think they should be included here besides maybe under Prog-Related, they're little more than an unpopular pop band to me. |

I didn't say anything about the enjoyability of their music; personally I like them but just creating entertaining music doesn't constitute entry into PA.

Didn't anyone hear Ogre Tones? It's entirely alternative-rock-pop meant for radioplay. Going beyond that album their entire career has been far too traditional, in my opinion, to be considered "prog" and therefore I don't see any reason why King's X should be here.

well last time i checked my local radio station, i never heard a single King's X song played on there. Simply put, no one even knows who they are except for prog fans. Not to mention the fact that they're on InsideOut records, a prog label. As to being traditional, I don't think you have to completely change your sound to be "prog". Look at Tangerine Dream. For a modern example, Symphony X and Tool have maintained the same basic sound as well. Edited by coffeeintheface - June 05 2006 at 02:07 |

Compare 10,000 Days to Undertow and you will see very few simiularities. Tool have constantly evolved their sound which each release. Same with Tangerine Dream, and even Symph X to some extent, V, Odyssey and Damnation Game are very different releases.

At the present moment, King's X are in the Band Admissions Master List under the heading of "Proposed/disputed artists" - which means that admission is not a certainty, but there are definite possibilities. However, the list is huge and we Collabs have only a limited time at our disposal - so, the discussion may still take some time.

Maybe Seventh Key should be included as well as Kings X .. I mean the only "crime" both of these bands do is they Rock ! and after all it is progressive "rock" isn`t it ?
It seems that if a band "Rocks" they get discriminated against on this site |

Equality and Ryan made some good points.
I would like to see them in, but if that's not the case, it's perfectly understandable. They are a bit "controversial" when it comes to the classic "is *so and so* prog or not."
