After I accidentally heard my sister listening to Piazzolla some weeks ago, I've become obsessed with his music. Yes, it's basically tango music, but at the same time, it's so much more. The music takes elements from jazz, classical music and whatnot, and blends them into something very unique.

I've been listening to Tango: Zero Hour and La Camorra non-stop lately. There's a certain Film Noir atmosphere in most of his compositions. Absolutely beautiful stuff. Heart

So, I guess I'm asking, are there any fans of Piazzolla here, or should I go hang myself in shame? EmbarrassedBig smile

Ok, I'll get me coat, then ... LOL

I guess one needs to talk about Yes, ELP or Dream Theater to get any attention around here. Pig (or alternatively, anything else than Piazzolla Wink)

I've got some of his albums...a rather "weird" approach of "tango" but definitely original. "La muerte del angel" is my favourite song from this guy.
If you like his music and wants to hear some influences in prog rock, goes on Aldi Meola's solo works.

I have a number of his albums in my classical music collection. I love the sound of the bandoneon as well as the tango and milonga rhythms.

it's prog tango :D (if there's such a term)

He basically takes tango and fuses it with other genres (like jazz, classical, avant garde) ... quite a controversial artist (since tango is changed into this fusion thing) but usually considered the best argentine musician of the century or something like that.

Don't go hang yourself in shame, Piazolla is a very respected musician among music fans all around the world, and he is extremely talented at songwriting and a virtuoso with his bandoneon.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one ... Wink

I'll look into Di Meola, thanks Philippe!
