They're long! they're noodly! They're b.... (oops nearly said the b word there). So come on, which KC noodlethon are you most likely to skip? I've gone for Moonchild but it's a close call.....

They are noodley but they are very different - Moonchild just peters out, a studio track in which by their own admission they were filling time; Providence is an improvisation (the full version of which can be heard on the box set "The Great Deceiver"), it's the type of thing the 73/74 line up were known for. Providence builds to a great climax (though on the full length track it goes off the boil a bit in the final couple of minutes). No contest for me - Moonchild is the track I'd skip; actually Providence is a favourite of mine!

Your poll is not well set-up!!!! The question is ambiguous.

I meant to cvote for Moonchild being miles better than providence, partly because iot has a superb start then skips into a "noodleathon"

Instead, now Moonchild is losing its battle because I wrongly voted that I would skip it.AngryWink

None of them.
Both albums require uninterrupted listening.

Same thing just happened to me.
One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless Compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity

I don't skip either, as they are necessary to the albums to which they belong. However, I prefer "Moonchild" to "Providence" because of the vocal part, which is hauntingly beautiful.

I'd skip Providence any day, any time! TOO BAD, it ruins the album for me.

I don't skip either, as they (and all albums) require straight through listening. As for which is better... Moonchild's first half, but Providence's second half. Probably Providence overall.

Well yes, but the actual song is great! And...you have to admit, even if you dont like it, thouse proto ambient sounds were really a very unique thing back in 69... I never skip the song in Moonchild, sometimes I do play next around the 5th minute... but normally I hear the whole thing. And Providence is an improv masterpiece

most likely?  hahah..

skip it everytime.

Moonchild...  one of the rare cases one song can bring an otherwise deserving 5 star album down a notch.

Both are pretty bad ... How anybody could actually regard either as a masterpiece is beyond me ?
When Moonchild starts it has the potential of being a great song then it bombs and bombs out badly, as for providence it spoils what could have been or perhaps still is the best KC album.

Some call music like these two songs  art but most just call it crap   Disapprove

others still (including myself) call it 'failed art'.   We all love prog for the daring nature of the music and the challenge of understanding it.  Sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't....  of course some people consider the work of an artist throwing crap (literally) at a canvas,  art.  and others call it for what they see it as.... crap hahahha. Obviously it's all subjective and King Crimson excelled in challenging the listener.
