Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" and Loggins and Messina's "Pathway to Glory" are 2 of my favorite rock songs of all time. Although they are'nt exactly prog bands I would say those compositions are definitely in that territory. There's something really appealing about the unique choice of instrumentation as well as the way the drums drive the song forward. I would even venture to say the drumming in those songs have a slight funk flavor which really color the song well against the canvas of guitars and violins.

Can anyone recommend a few songs that are similar to Kashmir and Pathway to Glory?

IMHO, both "Perfect Strangers" and "Rapture of the Deep" (Deep Purple) sound quite a bit like "Kashmir", at least in the insistent riffing of organ and guitar.

Kashmir is also one of my favorite tunes of all time, if not the most favorite. Unfortunately, I've never heard of the other guys.

There's an interesting toy, it was recommended here yesterday:

It is an Internet radio station that plays songs according to your taste. Try creating a "Kashmir" station, let’s see what it comes up with.

If you wanna hear the best quasi-Kashmir riff, listen to Kingdom Come's "Get It On," which is a direct homage to the song (it is actually the Kashmir riff backward!), and one of the best Zep/Plant "rips" ever recorded.

Peace.

Stargazer by Rainbow is certainly heavily indebted to Kashmir, particularly the arabesque that Blackmore uses in the middle which is almost note for note identical.
