Although I haven't really really investigated their previous albums, I think it's farily safe to say, having this one for a while, that this album really flows as a whole compared to the others.

I'm listening to it now. The first song was great! The second one put me off at first, but it grew on me by the end, and right now I'm listening to the third one... Confused not quite sure what to think of here, heh. I'm excited to hear the rest, though.

Supermassive Black Hole is a great song, despite its popp-y-ness and dance beat.

LOL Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's still Prince.

And yeah, it's a good pop song, just kind of out of place on that record, I think. Either way, it's a fantastic album, and I'll definitely be buying it as soon as its released.

The best songs I've heard are 'Take A Bow', 'Knights Of Cydonia' and 'Hoodoo'. Otherwise the other songs sound remarkably like their last album's songs, imo.

I never really listened to their last album, except for a few songs. For those who've heard both: which one would you say is better?

I think Muse's best album is Absolution, with Origin of Symmetry a very close second - but there are some really great moments on Showbiz too. Black Holes... has some cool stuff, like "Knights of Cydonia" and "Take a Bow", but as an album it doesn't seem to have the coherence of Absolution or the originality and audacity of "Origins...".

Muse are still talking about doing a full-blown concept album - at least, they were in a recent interview in the Guardian.

Heard Knights of Cydonia on the radio last night... it made me happy to hear something good being played for once :). The album's not on Myspace anymore, but I'll definitely be buying it on July 11th.

YAY!  the singer stopped trying to sound like Thom Yorke, and now sounds like the b*****d child of Prince and Freddie Mercury!

I might actually be able to enjoy Muse now!  Thumbs Up

I have to say their "new" approach to vocal harmony is very Queen-like - and also very good!

Yeah, the harmonies on the first song reminded me of Bohemian Rhapsody... in a good way. LOL

I was thinking the same thing... there's a really big Queen influence on this album, at least in the vocal department. It's really obvious on "A Soldier's Poem," and It works out nicely, I think.

EDIT: Just saw your review Cert, and I agree almost completely, except with the conclusion - their previous albums seemed somewhat interesting to me but were never enough to make me call myself a fan, but this one has really impressed me more that I ever could have expected. Definitely a good place to start, at least if you're anything like me :P.

Am I the only one who thinks the couple songs on myspace that are new by Muse sounds terrible, monotonous, and retro-museish? I guess so. Cry

Redundant.

You missed out on the whole album being up there. I'd definitely be unimpressed if I didn't listen to the entire thing all the way through, so maybe there's hope for you yet.

They were on 'C4 presents..' last night playing 4 of the tracks from the album and being interviewed by the very nice Edith Bowman.Interestingly they played as a four peice with a keyboard player.Matt Bellamy admitted that they went out and bought synthesisers escpecially for this album! He talked about them sounding a bit like eighties electronic bands at times because they were beginners at using synths! There were also comparisons drawn with Britney Spears and T-Rex for the single 'Supermassive Black Holes' but no mention of Queen or Prince!

Other interesting snippets...Matt Bellamy's Dad was in the sixties band The Tornadoes.Muse started as Dominic Howards band and Matt asked to join because he noticed that a lot of girls were going to their gigs! He also only wanted to be the guitarist but they couldn't find anyone in their home town to sing in the band so he ended having to sing..usually through a haze of feedback!

I love Dominic Howards transparent drum kit.Very cool! It may be just my imagination but he is beginning to look and play like a young Carl Palmer! His drumming is a big feature of the latest album..absolutely superb! Not all of the latest album is prog but all of it is at least excellent.'Take A Bow' has to be heard to be believed..ELP crossed with Tomita and just about everything including the kitchen sink thrown in! 'Knights Of Cydonia' is probably the best track..great stuff!

I guess it's impossible for me to guess what non-fans think!

However, even though I've heard it many times since the original leak, I'm hearing more and more with each listen - and following this morning's listen, I may need to revise my rating upwards: From "Soldier's Poem" until the end, the feeling is very proggy - and that's more than half of the album. When you add "Take A Bow", that's 3/4 of it.

I had a feeling that this might happen - and I know that Muse are far more than "skin deep". I'm listening to "City of Delusion" now, and I don't remember it sounding this mind-blowing when I reviewed it...

I LOVE it when an album noticeably improves with time!
The important thing is not to stop questioning.
