Topic: Opeth or Orphaned Land Posted: June 30 2006 at 20:26 |
These 2 bands pushes the boundary of progressive metal music as we know it. Both are lyrically and musically proficient, dark, heavy and adventurous. Both make use of clean and growly vocals and both had an acoustic realease ( which I really really dig ). So, which is it?
I went for Opeth.

I have Mabool by Orphaned Land. It's good, but I like Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries, Damnation, and Morningrise more.

I prefer Opeth, they're without a doubt one of my top ten bands.
However, my favorite progressive album with extreme elements is Into Eternity's Buried In Oblivion. Opeth's album are better, but I enjoy Buried in Oblivion more if you understand what I mean.
What's the point of a neither option in a poll like this?

^^^^^ One of the things I love about Into Eternity is the mixing of three distinct vocal styles in their music.Clean singing, screaming and growls. AWESOME.

Hah, that's the reason why I like them so much. Along with those sweeping guitar melodies.

What about Agalloch? They do it at least as well as, if not better
than, Opeth, who easily wins between the two bands in the poll.

Agalloch isn't even close to being as good as Opeth.

What do you mean by good? I really enjoy both and aside from both making use of extreme vocals and light acoustic passages, I feel that they are very different. A more fitting comparison to Agalloch would be early Ulver or Empyrium.

Opeth Lite?
Idk, but the use of keyboards and, most importantly, clean electrics makes it anything but an acoustic album.
