Supper's Ready should have been on Genesis Live ..  .. but fortunately Genesis Archive 1 delivers this unsurpassed epic track featuring my favorite Tony Banks solo, mainly because the psychedelic inspired organ solo is so compelling and matches perfectly with the ominous atmosphere  , every time GOOSE BUMPS!!!!!
Second is the choir-Mellotron in Afterglow on Seconds Out and third the spectacular, fat sounding ARP Pro Solist flights in The Colony Of Slippermen.

Definetly the organ solo at apocalypse in 9/8!!
Also honorable mentions to the piano opening at firth of fifth, tge synth solo at down and out and the mellotron solo at seven stones

I voted robbery. The solo is very trippy and the time signature is very odd yet palatable. That's what I like about genesis they dared to use all the musical resources that nearly all other bands didn't bother to use.

Other for me - the piano solo in the middle of "Firth of Fifth", just before Hackett's stunning guitar solo. Sheer class!

Tony Banks is for me more of an arranger, a conductorand creator of atmosphere with his keyboards than a soloist...but I go for his work on "Ripples".

I'll go for 'Down & Out' from the list, but hey! Where's 'In the Cage'?  Banks was always more of 'Chords' player, creating a fantastic and unique feel, but there certainly are some wonderful solo moments. 'Suppers Ready' and 'Robbery Assault & Battery' are brilliant too.

Yea I was looking for Cinema Show too so Ill go with "other". It may not be the most technical, but it has a very memorable melody line. Especially the live version on Seconds Out when the double drum parts kick in it still can bring me to tears

I'll go for The Cinema Show too, as this damn 7/8 solo is more than perfect to me. 2nd place for Apocalypse in 9/8 (in which, by the way, the solo is in 4/4).

I agree, this might be my favorite TB moment. Also, conspicuously missing from the poll (IMO of course) is Tony's solo (and all his parts actually) from Can-Utility And The Coastliners, which is one of Genesis' most underappreciated songs (again IMO).

I got it as 9/8 in the midi. I even counted the beats of the guitar and were 9 per bar. The solo itself flows but when I listen to the guitar part alone it has the odd cut somewhere along the bar. Perhaps the midi was wrong.

I think Ill choose 'other' for In the Cage...
Cinema Show is a great one missing from the list, as is the solo in 'The Raven' section of The Colony of Slippermen. Riding the Scree is a great keyboardy, solo-esque song too...

The Mellotron/organ intro to Watcher Of The Skies is one of my favorites. Unlike anything else. Powerful, ominous, and dramatic.
The whole Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is pretty much a collection of Banks' riffs & solos that carries the whole album through. I especially like the mellotron mixed chorus in Silent Sorrow In Empty Boats.
Overall, my favorite Banks solo is The Cinema Show solo. (Studio version) It transports you to lush sonic landscapes. A climatic theme & variations of the whole album.
