1. From The Undertow (A Curious Feeling). So intense, so melancholic... I love the chords, the synth sounds... the opening chord is just amazing!
2. The opening solo on Duchess (Duke studio album). Not flashy at all, a bit minimal, but very beautiful and emotional!
3. Piano solo on Firth Of Fifth: no explanation needed
4. The bridge leading to Cinema Show on Three Sides Live, and Cinema Show itself
5. The mellotron solo of Watcher Of The Skies (Genesis Live version)
6. The organ ending of Get Them Out By Friday
7. The fantastic solo in the middle of Moonmadness.
8. The In The Cage moog solo (Three Sides Live)
9. Synth solo in Robbery, Assault And Battery
10. Synth solo in Inside And Out

Great poll!! I love Tony Banks Genesis-period even when his solo albums are... no so good... Anyway, I vote for Apocalypse in 9/8, very prog, very epic and very dark keys solo...

Peace & Love...

I find his best keyboard work, and especially the solo parts, on The Lamb. "In the Cage" is a great one, but the one over 9/8 in "Riding the Skree" is absolutely brilliant, compositionally and technically. He never hit that peak again, and much of his later keyboard work is downright embarassing.

By the way, I don't know if "solos" is the right word here, because that usually implies improvisation, and he invariably played them the same, as every bootleg will attest. "Solo parts" or sections is probably more accurate.

I voted for "the mellotron choir at the end of Entangled", because it's one of the most emotional keyboard pieces ever!

If we go for technicality, I must say:

  • In The Cage
  • Robbery Assault & Battery
  • piano intro to "Firth of fifth"
  • Down and out
  • Follow you follow me (outstanding solo in an otherwise poor song)
A flower?

I loke the Cinema Show solo the best, but for just anything he played, i like the piano in the beginning of Dancing with the Moonlit Knight, it's just kind of outlining the vocals but it adds so much. Goosebumps.
If it ain't broke don't break it.
