Kiko by Los Lobos
Los Lobos: not a prog band at all, but with a progressive attitude. Great songwriting, great playing on Kiko, with a lot of attention to detail (30 different sorts of guitars), great vocals, very eclectic and innovating compositions, and completely uncommercial: after their smash hit La Bamba, they had no interest at all in holding on to a commercially succesfull career. They chose family life instead, and an artistically succesful career .

Not prog and maybe not the best ever, but 'From Elvis In Memphis' by Elvis Presley I remember being a pinnacle of his career and the greatest comeback in rock, whilst a fave of mine . If anyone hasn't heard it, it's a complete re-invention into a deep soul/blues sound. Not a weak track on it. Haven't heard it in a while but am thoroughly blown away every time I do.

Depending on the weather, my mood and the day of the week, it could be one of the following:
Prefab Sprout - Jordan: The Comeback
XTC - Skylarking
Momus - The Poison Boyfriend
Squarepusher - Hard Normal Daddy
Metallica - Master of Puppets
It's Immaterial - Life's Hard and Then You Die
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
Portishead - s/t
Pulp - This is Hardcore
Lalo Schifrin - Mannix
Mr Bungle - California
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream
David Sylvian - Secrets of the Beehive
Elbow - Leaders of the Free World
Lloyd Cole and the Commotions - Rattlesnakes
The Divine Comedy - Casanova
Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (by Strategy)
Ben Folds - Rockin' the Suburbs
Then again, it could be another album entirely.

I LOVE that album!
For me, though there is of course, no "best album ever," perhaps I'd pick The Who's Who's Next, or maybe LZ's Physical Grafitti -- both very solid, timeless R&R albums that I have loved since I was a teen, and which I return to again and again. Essential!

Led Zep IV or Machine Head for me. Not terribly original but they were special to me in my formative years and remain so to this day.

I'd like to be buried with all existing copies of albums from artists like Britney Spears, N'Sync, Backstreet Boys and the like...
That way I'd be glad to do something good for mankind even from the grave!
About the good albums... don't bury me with them, let the other generations enjoy them!!!

That was almost on my list too, but then I couldn't make up my
mind whether the soundtrack for Ocean's Twelve wasn't actually better,
but it's not all David Holmes and then I moved on...
Fine album, however. It doesn't hurt that I listened to it a lot during the month that I lived in New York.
