i really like what i have heard from pain of salvation, which album should i purchase to "get into them"?

I'd probably say either The Perfect Element or Remedy Lane. Only get BE if you are prepared for a somewhat boring album with a very ridiculous concept. I haven't heard their early albums so I can't give my opinion on those ones.

Remedy Lane is the most accesible one. I think it's the best one to start with. Entropia is good too. But don't get Be. It's my favorite one, but definitely not a good starting point.

I've got Entropia and One Hour By The Concrete Lake so far.
Entropia is great, but One Hour is taking ten hours to get into!
I will get Remedy Lane soon.

I got into PoS by listening to BE. Back then I found both Remedy Lane and The Perfect Element boring. (Now I love them all) ;)

I recommend you to start with Remedy Lane, their best album and one of the most accesible too. A masterpiece.
Then get The Perfect Element. Very good album.
Entropia and One Hour... are fine albums but they are more metal-oriented, therefore you'll like them if you are into metal.
After all of them you should try Be, more difficult to get into but it's a grower, you know. It's not bad.

I've only got RL and TPE. If some of these guys think RL is the most accessible, then the others must be like cracking granite with a spoon. I do not find it accessible at all. I still like it but I guess I have yet to fully grasp it. TPE is awesome.

Don't buy TPE, Be, 12:5 or One Hour by the Concrete Lake first.
The Perfect Element is considered their best album by many fans. So I suggest saving it for later.
I had no problems getting into Be, but a lot people do. Also it doesn't really represent PoS' music very well. It's totally different from their other albums.
12:5 is an acoustic live album and therefore not the best place to start. It's awesome though.
OHBTCL is probably the most accesible album, but it doesn't really show what PoS is in my opinion. It's also Gildenlow's least favorite 
So as I said before, try Remedy Lane first and if you don't find it try Entropia.

Remedy Lane for sure. It's very accesible and the songs just click on the first or second listen. The Perfect Element is a very great album too, but it isn't recommended for new people to get into them. My first album was TPE and I didn't liked it until I bought Remedy Lane and then whent to listen to TPE again.
I'm probably one of the few people that find BE a masterpiece (along with Dalezilla and King of loss), but as many already said, the album doesn't represent their overall sound. The DVD is great, but only if you like BE...
So get Remedy Lane.

Heh, I just got Remedy Lan in the mail, but TPE was my first album from them and it made me want to get everything else. TPE is definitly 5 stars. BE is very overwrought, and only parts of it stand up to the rest of PoS's career.

Remedy lane and the Perfect element as everyone has said are great albums that really posess the true refined Pain of Salvation style.
Be is an amazing album, but don't buy it first. It's an amazing album but not very acessible, as well as it's alot to take in.
Be Live was my first material from POS. Upon first watch/ listen I thought "what the hell is this???", but upon several watches/ listens, I found it to be a masterpiece.
Chamberry- I'm sure there are several more people who agree with us, as BE is 29th in the prog metal top 100, and the DVD is 10th! At a rating of 4.14 with 109 ratings, I think I can conclude that the overall opinion is good, despite the controversy.

It really depends on what you're looking for in the album. Their first two album, Entropia and One Hour By The Concrete Lake, but Entropia especially, are much more technical than their later work. They also tend to be heavier and more metal with shredding and some borderline growling by Daniel Gildenlow.
Perfect Element and Remedy Lane are probably both easier to get into and slightly better than their first efforts. They're both more experimental with a greater variety of songs, improved singing, and shows PoS taking on a much more melodic edge. The riffing also begins to sound a little grungier than metal at this point.
BE is a great album, but definitly their hardest to get into. Very little metal here, and most of the sound is derived from the orchestra backing the band.

Remedy Lane is my favorite, and in my opinion the most interesting. Although all their albums are great, I never got into The Perfect Element as much as the others.
I got into BE a lot of after I bought the DVD. Maybe not their best, but it's very interesting and different, so I definitely like it.

Yes...Be isn't a good start. I actually turned someone on to PoS and they wanted to hear Be.I told them they should listen to the other albums first THEN check Be out.They took my advice,and when they did listen to Be they loved it,but admitted that if that would have been their first experience with PoS it would have really turned them off of the band and he probably wouldn't have bothered to check out the other albums.
