I cant deny their impact on the music scene but musically I think they were awfull, only Dave Grohl had any talent, and he continues to use that today, a very good drummer.

You win here hands down. Most of the prog artists are guys and unless some of the male members here like to jump the fence, the eye candy is all yours. I can see some of the fellas here at Prog Archives getting a bit envious though with your eye candy favs.

Where I live, in British Columbia, if you don't listen to Nirvana, people wonder what you listen to at all.
Extremely overrated.

Are you keeping tabs on me or what? Big Brother's watching me... As to the looks thing, perhaps you know there was a 25-page thread (still exists, as far as I know) in the OT section called "Prog Eye Candy", where all kinds of drooling went on... Of course, I found myself vastly outnumbered whenever I tried to talk about some guy's looks, so I have to vent my frustrations somewhere else!

One of the most overrated bands ever. I'm sorry about Kurt Cobain, who was obviously a soul in great pain, but that does not make their music any better. Pearl Jam were a much better band, and still are - Eddie Vedder's got a great voice, and looks quite hot as well. |
I could not agree more except for the looks thing. My eyes are closed ha ha ha............Ms Cancer Mars.

They are good, not the best, overrated by alot of people though..... the songs are quite easily structured the hardest chord they use is the F chord, than its just power chords so there isn't much variety, but heck at least it's not emo.

The mythos that ensued after Cobain's death did them a disservice. When I first heard "Nevermind" it blew me away. I thought it was much better than Pear Jam's "Ten." "In Utero" was good, but didn't impress me as much. They may have become overrated, but at the time they were getiing every ounce of respect they deserved. They ushered in a fresh sound in rock. We haven't had a truly fresh sound since.

Plus he's directed some great videos for Foo Fighters - and All My Life is one of the best Rocking single cuts I know.

All of that more than makes up for the fact that the Foo Fighters tend to be so-so.

I do enjoy the music videos very much, it's the music they're being put to that I'm not a fan of. I agree with his drumming for QoTS, though I don't particularly like the band. I haven't heard Probot, but perhaps I'll check it out on your recommendation.

Nirvana is one of the most over-rated band post 1980.

Nirvana were definitely overrated, if important as a vanguard for a sea change in music (at least in the US - their impact was much less in Europe). Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and not least Eleven were much better in the same field, but if nothing else, Nirvana gave Dave Grohl enough cachet to build a very impressive career.
|
I agree fully. Except with the Dave Grohl statement as I don't exactly consider his output impressive. I don't find his projects bad, just consistantly mediocre.
I voted for worst band ever. I've had to stop listening to many radio stations just because I find them unbearable.
