So, what do you think? I consider them overrated. I prefer Pearl Jam to Nirvana. Alice in Chains were much better than Nirvana too. Not to mention Soundgarden...

Musically overrated? yes.
Nonetheless important to the evolution of popular (and not popular) music? definitely.
Personally I think Cobain played the reluctant martyr part a little too well. Dave Grohl was still a great drummer and definitely one of my favorite rock musicians.

I hate saying this, but I think most of there attention came from Kurt Cobains death rather than there music. It was good for what it was, don't get me wrong, but still very overrated.

They were at the right place at the right time, the whole music scene was growing very stale at that time, imo.I think people were tired of the excesses of the 80's,and the whole hair metal scene was very representative of that.I know I was sick of it.But Nirvana didn't impress me that much.Mother Love Bone,Soundgarden and Alice in Chains did.

One of the most overrated bands ever. I'm sorry about Kurt Cobain, who was obviously a soul in great pain, but that does not make their music any better. Pearl Jam were a much better band, and still are - Eddie Vedder's got a great voice, and looks quite hot as well.

Right place at the right time. The early 90's meant a real return to hi-energy rock like Pearl Jam, Red Hot CP, Faith No More etc... ans Nirvana was right there!!!
It (not just Nirvana but the whole grunge scene) was fresh and exciting!!!!!!!!
And it made that awfull crappy hair or glam metal from the late 80's look like puffed up tarts w**king their guitar with their idiotic hardo. All of them 80's videostars appeared spandex pantyhouse poofs. Grunge was real guys next door.
I love every single second of it.
And musically, they were much better too!

Can find any proper choice from the poll, but I liked their "Bleach", "Incesticide" and live albums, Kurt managed to do great feedback sound walls, but he was not a hero to me though. He could have taken little less dope and tried to be a father for his child instead of killing himself.

Nirvana were an amazing band, love 'em or hate 'em they made a huge impression on the rock scene with "Never Mind" which i considered a fantastic album on its release and it is still one of my all time faves, i've seen 'em come and go over the years and Nirvana were outstanding, and it was tragic their career was cut short so soon. They were very talented musicians, look how successful Dave Grohl became with the Foos - another great band. Although i love prog there are other animals in the forest !

WHERE attention? WHERE music?
Nirvana were definitely overrated, if important as a vanguard for a sea
change in music (at least in the US - their impact was much less in
Europe). Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and not least Eleven were much
better in the same field, but if nothing else, Nirvana gave Dave Grohl
enough cachet to build a very impressive career.

I agree fully. Except with the Dave Grohl statement as I don't exactly consider his output impressive. I don't find his projects bad, just consistantly mediocre.
I voted for worst band ever. I've had to stop listening to many radio stations just because I find them unbearable.
"One had to be a Newton to notice that the moon is falling, when everyone sees that it doesn't fall. "

I
think the Probot album is tremendous in parts - especially if you
consider that Grohl plays everything on it, and his drumming with QotS
is incredibly solid without being boring or pedestrian (particularly on
things like No One Knows). Plus he's directed some great videos for Foo
Fighters - and All My Life is one of the best Rocking single cuts I
know.
Lastly, his answer to the question of how he feels about people
downloading his music; "I don't mind it. I want my music to reach
people, and I already have more money than I'll ever need".
All of that more than makes up for the fact that the Foo Fighters tend to be so-so.
