Hi all:

It seems The Strawbs are releasing a long awaited boxed set (I remember talks about it since 1999 or so) of rare material. The thing is that if you pre-order it, you get a bonus CD, so I thought it could be interesting posting this in the forum:

A TASTE OF STRAWBS:

The vision behind this CD collection is that it will include all the Strawbs tracks that ought to be in a boxed set, but virtually none of the versions that even devout fans will currently have in their collection. Accordingly it is sourced from the Strawbs' own archives and other sources - unreleased songs, demo versions, alternate mixes, live material, all of which I know will absolutely delight Strawbs fans everywhere. The release date is planned for this autumn.

I'd like to invite you to purchase it in advance. Doing so will entitle you to:

  • your name included in the booklet accompanying the boxed set as a sponsor of the collection
  • a sponsor's certificate signed by Dave Cousins
  • a bonus CD5 which will only be available to the first 1000 purchasers.

In order to qualify for this early purchaser offer all you need to do is place your order by Friday 25th August 2006.

The price of the boxed set is £43.95.
    Post & packing
    UK - £3.95
    Europe - £4.95
    Rest of world - £6.00

Having been involved closely with Dave Cousins in helping to put this together, I'm really really delighted with the results - it's the boxed set I would always have wanted from the Strawbs. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Please don't hesitate to e-mail me if you want any further information (other than the proposed contents or how to order - but please PLEASE don't send your orders to me - they need to go to Witchwood Records.

    Best wishes

    DICK GREENER

I looked at the track listing......   Fine. Whatever.......  As for me, I'm still waiting for "Nomadness".   Yes, I know about the licensing/legal/bureaucratic issues, so how about this?  Just release the songs that DIDN'T appear on the two versions of the 2-CD compilation "Halcyon Days" as an EP or something.

Yes, A&M must be prog number one enemy. They are also responsible for not releasing and mistreating most of early Rick Wakeman catalogue.
There is a who-knows-if-it's-legal cd by a certain 'Progressive Line' label of Nomadness. I haven't listen to it, so I don't know about the quality.
