This poll is sort of an offspring of the Marbles one, since somebody mentioned that "Ocean Cloud" is Marllion's best epic within the past 20 years. They really didn't have an epic until This Strange Engine, but I did include the "This Town" suite off Holidays In Eden, since they all go hand in hand.
I left out songs that were on the cusp of being an epic ("Quartz", "If My Heart Were A Ball", etc.), as I would prefer to keep it to songs that were at least 10 minutes.
Anyway, my vote is for "This Strange Engine". This song embodies what an epic should be, with so many different moods and textures (just my opinion, however). The live versions are even better than the original studio version. And if you catch H after the song's performance on the Wish You Were Here DVD, the man looks like he's emotionally drained. I've heard a lot of anti-H stuff on this site, but what the man has is a passion to go along with his enormous talent.

Grendel's an epic surely?
Its also an epic plagiaristic (paen?) fusion of Epitaph by KC,Plague Of Lightkeepers by VDGG and Supper's Ready by Genesis.

I've only heard it once, and quite frankly I completely forgot about it. It's legendary, however, and should've been included. I'm taking off "This Town" (as I was apprehensive in the first place) and add "Grendel".

Tough choice again. I love all these songs. I chose This Strange Engine, one of my favourite Marillion songs. 
You shouldn't take This Town trilogy and replace it with Grendel, just add the Fish era epic. IMHO.  |

This Strange Engine, for me I think based on the excellent live version from the Wish You Were Here DVD. Though it was a tough choice as I love all those epics with the exception of House and Interior Lulu, which have never done than much for me.

I've only heard half of those songs but Grendal is the best of them, closely followed by The Invisable Man.

Grendel, for me. Regardless the influences.
Ocean Cloud and This Strange Engine are great as well.
Is Neverland an epic? This is the 21st century?
Marillion is not the greatest with epics. The band is good writing songs of about 10 minutes.

Whilst I agree that Invisible Man is not only the best epic off Marbles but the best epic of the entire Hogarth era, I still voted for Grendel. (Yes, I know it's derivitive of Genesis, but that's why I love it!)
Ocean Cloud is too long and doesn't hold my interest really.
Strange Engine is patchy and, again, too long for me.
I wonder if Easter could be included as a sort of mini-epic? That would be my third choice if it was there.

At around 11 - 12 minutes, I'd consider them epics. "Neverland" definitely.

I think I'm the one who made that remark, E-Dub. I made it because I put it next to Grendel as the best Marillion epic. I cannot choose between both. They are very different, but I love both to pieces. (I voted for Ocean Cloud because it's behind)

Neverland doesn't really feel like an epic to me. It's always been very intimate and personal. But it deserves every second of it's length.

A close rase between TSE, Grendel and The Invisible Man. I went w/ TIM.
I actually haven't heard Ocean Cloud yet,  but I ordered the two disc version of Marbels the other day.
