Amyric Leroy:

Dear fellow Rattlers,

I'm too stunned to comment on this yet, but I've just been informed that Pip died last night. Apparently of "natural causes", at the Gare du Nord in Paris, on his way back from Hatfield's gig in Groningen on Saturday.

Hugh Hopper: "Patrice called to say Pip died today at 2.00am in Paris. He played with Hatfield in Amsterdam. Richard says it was a great gig".

What can I say ? I guess nothing right now, except... What a sh*t year it's been !

A.

After Elton Dean and Pierre Moerlen, this is a tragic year for Canterbury

I've never heard of him, but my regards go out to fellow musicians. Now I am inspired to find these bands' recordings and hear them. You see? Something can come from death. When I hear his music, I am sure I will understand why you mourn him.

RIP. Disapprove

A superb drummer and a talented composer - a sad loss indeed.

yet you still have time!

Very sad.

I've just known and loved his playing for a year or two. Loved Pip Pyle's drumming from first listen. I'll play all the National Health and Hatfield and the North albums I own tomorrow. Halfway Between Heaven and Earth and Tenemos Roads are two of my alltime favorite tracks.
Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
