Has anyone heard this band before? It's a very brilliant group from what I can hear from 1983. I know it's SAMLA MAMMAS MANNA's (copy/pasted) related and therefore weird by nature. Even there 1999 album is 1983 recording quality (what's the story?). Prog experts come out from hiding and inform me.

You made me listen to "Zamlaranamma" from 1982 again. Weird. I like it. Have not really gotten into this album before now (except Doppler). Funny how nature can contribute...

I've heard some of their stuff.
It's like Zamla Mammas Manna with a 80's toutch

"Zamlaranamma" is a cracking album. Up there with other Samla/Zamla
classics such as "Maltid", "Family Cracks" and "Kaka", in my opinion.
All three bands are essential listening for all but the most casual of
RIO fans.
Oh, and 1983 is a live album, not a studio one. It's a collection of live recordings released posthumously. |

Fusionman (nice to see there are other fusionheads here!): You may have learned these things by now but I didn't see much info here, so here you go; Von Zamla did indeed rise from the ashes of Lars Hollmer and Eino Haapla's (keys and guitar) Samlas Mammas Manna, one of Sweden's first really avant garde progressive bands. Though nearly unknown (even among many proggies) they were/are highly praised as top-notch musicians doing very innovative 'chamber' prog before it was hip. Hope this helps. BTW, '1983' is an excellent choice and one of their best.

Amazing, I just wrote a short BIO for this band because I noticed,by chance, that there wasnt one!
Can anyone flesh it out for me,it is pretty barebones: http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=924 |

Von Zamla was the successor band to Samla Mammas Manna, whose Maltid album is highly recommendable
Von Zamla is a fine RIO group (part of the RIO chart signataires) and you can read my reviews to make your decision where to start. I'd try the early Samla material
Von Zamla is the predecessor to the 90's Zamla incarnation.

Tony-- Couldn't find a lot but I gathered a few things from the GEPR. 1st LP from 1970-71 on Silence, second (73) featured Coste Apetrea on guitar who was eventually replaced by Eino Haapla in 1978. Sorry couldn't give you more background, didn't have time to go searching but it shouldn't be too terribly hard to find something. Good luck!

I have only 1983 live record by Von Zamla and I love it - amazing music, and the quality of this live recording is unbelievably high!

I prefer their early stuff under Samla Mammas Manna/ Zamla Mammaz Manna.
Familesprickor / Family Cracks (1980) Klossa Knapitatet (1974) Maltid (1973) Samla Mammas Manna (1971) Snorungarnas Symfoni (1976) For Aldre Nybegynnare / Schlagerns Mystik (1978) in that progression, though the last one is not really to my taste |

funny - right now i'm listening to Zamla Mammaz Manna Familjesprickor, and for them I don't find it exceedingly strange [so far anyway...;)]. a lot of fusion elements in here actually [1980], and the second tune, Ventilation Calculation, has some definite echos of allman brothers in the riff! well, i guess that IS strange huh?
