This are the top albums from their genre this year, or at least the highest ranked
I for one, dont enjoy the Flower Kings that much, but I must say I find the tangent to be an awesome band, Tillison is a great composer and In Earnest is a very good album, with one of my favorite epics ever, the title track.
But, what do you think? Which do you enjoy more?

The album is called 'A Place in the Queue,' by the way. In Earnest is just the name of the first track.

My vote goes to The Tangent anyway, though both albums are amazing.

Paradox Hotel by a long shot. Now that Roine is gone, The Tangent are about as exciting as an olive oil enema.

Roine Stolt is a great absence in the 'Place in the Queue' album. His substitute isn't a bad guitar player, but Tillison dominates the things here, and I must confess that I don't like keyboards so much...

I must thank this album because it started my journey through the Flower Kings world.
One of my best 2006 till now.

Tangent - no contest here!

For me their latest is probably better than TFK whole discography. And mind you I like Flower Kings in general. But "Place in a queue" is just much better

I haven't had Paradox Hotel for long. It's good but not as good as A Place in the Queue yet. There's nothing to match In Earnest.

Paradox hotel by a very small margin. Andy Tillison is a great talent.

A Place in the Queue is probably my favourite album of 2006, so no contest.

I differ, I think now Tillison can really grow within the band, as he already did with APITQ

You could be right; but, I simply couldn't get passed his monotoned vocals. I really felt bored and uninspired by it all.

A Place in the Queue is my most listened to album, and Andy Tillison is one of my most prominent musical idols.  I'll have to vote for the Queue.  It's lyrics are much more interesting than that of the Paradox Hotel.

Paradox Hotel is one of my favorite TFK works, but it still doesn't reach the musical ambition of A Place in the Queue.

I think both suffer most from the loss of Zoltan, personally. With the Tangent, I don't mind this guitarist, I just feel he could have been featured more inplace of some of the keyboard solos maybe.I'm going with 'A Place...'
Looking still the same after all these years...

Tillison dominates because it is Tillison's band. The first Tangent album was actually meant to be Andy's first solo album but it morphed into something else, went off on a tangent, pun intended.None of the members but Tillison are meant to be permanent.I just had to say that because alot of people are under the misconception that they were a Roine Stolt project, and they aren't.

A Place in the Queue for me,I think it is a brilliant album, especially after the disappointing The World That We Drive Through(which isn't terrible,it's just not in the same league as The Tangent's brilliant debut).

^Spot-on Progtologist.  Tillison has always been the brains and driving force but thankfully, he seems to have very little ego and welcomed input from Stolt and others on the first album.  Who knows how it might have turned out without said input but as you and I know, it is indeed "brilliant."  The whole thing turned into something other than originally planned, which is hardly unheard of in the fluid universe that is music.  And I am sure the resultant outcome is something Tillison and his prog audience are extremely happy with.

I would bet he still has a good relationship with Stolt, but part of him is probably pleased that his new band could come up with another winner and that the spotlight would be more on him, be it good or bad, than having the FK crutch that many people felt was used through the first two albums.

I voted Tangent, but love Hotel as well.

Now that Stolt is gone...I must say that I'm starting to like the Tangent more than before. Wink
