so my friend really loves wishbone ash, what are some other bands i can introduce to him to get him more into the prog scene?

If he likes John Wetton (who was a Wishbone Ash member) maybe he'll be interested in checking out Crimson or UK...different sounding bands, but the Wetton connection may be of interest to him...

Argus is as close as WA got to prog
Start working from that base

'Argus' is their best, imo. Superb album- one of my favourites; a terrific mix of prog, heavy rock, folk and blues, even a bit of jazz here and there. 'Pilgrimage' runs it close and is more folkier, and for guitar workouts, you can't top their debut. These are possibly the only 3 Ash albums you really need- most of their other output (bar the recent Bona Fide) is rather ordinary rock, imo anyway.

I RECENTLY REVIEWED THEIR THERE'S THE RUB? THEIR FIRST WITHOUT TED TURNER >> still good, but after............................

Wetton was never Wishbone ash member.
King Crimson has nothing similar with Wishbone ash.

Wetton was never Wishbone ash member.

He was on the Braves album as far as I remember. But definitemy not the link to get your buddy into prog, IMHO

Yeah 'There's The Rub' has its moments- 'Persephone' is a particularly good one, but I remember it has a dip into dull rock around the middle, yet 'FUBB' was a good workout. Haven't heard it for a while, though...
Yes John Wetton was on 'Number The Brave'. He didn't fit too well, by all accounts, and the resulting album isn't good at all, imho anyway. That album also has New Age singer Claire Hamill- barely recognisable as Ash to me anyway...

I think the closest to WA are some Canterbury's like Camel and Caravan (their elder albums) but only if your friend's WA favourite is Argus. You could also try Mostly Autumn's "The spirit of autumn past".
Of course, those are only my opinions and if you want to introduce somebody to the prog music, you have to be very careful... don't start with Klaus Schulze....
