VB,

I usually consider anything German, 70s, an' challenging as Krautrock. Some 8-tracks I've never got into (Gila, Mythos) but I accept their otherness. Never considered standard rock as part of the genre ala Scorpions an' Eloy (even took me 1972 plays of Thirsty Moons' debut to dig) but I gotta fair few 'Kraut Comps' that are more than happy to showcase their (and others) labels' acquisitions

^^ Strange question. I'm sure most krautrock listeners don't think in terms of rivalry

Jus' bin 'avin a flick through the Can an' noticed that 'Prehistoric Future'  (sessions from '68. Vinyl only) is missing. Could be a boot 'tho it was widely available in UK record shops when it was released a few years back. Also there is a French cassette (name escapes me. Don't 'ave it. Edit: 'Only You' perhaps ?) from the early '80s with some unreleased material

I am a krautrock fan and love Amon Duul (both) and I also happen to love Can as well.
I know of others that dislike Can. But as others have noted, Can is different in approach and sound from their peers.

Focus on the ones you love and be happy with it Smile

Not a matter of rivalry, indeed... check my signature ; I love both bands (Can a little more, though)
btw; I think AD II went downhill after 1973. Nothing imaginative as Yeti or Lemminge... the same can be said about Can, but there's something that appeals me, even in their disco flavoured albums... (not Rite Time, that's something elseDead!)

Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

Revival after 4 days...

Just listening to Anubian Lights' Let Not the Flame Die Out album.
this band is listed as Krautrock in the archives, despite the fact that they're from the USA. To make matters more complicated, they were moved here from psychedelic/space rock section!!!!

There are also a couple of other bands from other parts of the world, and the multinational Between... you can say Krautrock is a style rather than a national movement, but do these non-german bands really reflect the Krautrock style? (the said album of Anubian Lights reflect more of an experimental/electronic approach rather than classic Krautrock style)

Besides, even more German related bands (Swiss etc.) aren't listed under Krautrock, such as Brainticket (contrary to Krokodil, which I thought were swiss, in Krautrock!)

so, what are the criteria for Krautrock? if anubian lights is here, shouldn't bands like Tortoise and Stereolab also be included? (I didn't hear either of them, just writing upon info I got from PA) English Amon Düül is excused because of its original AD II connection; what about the rest? More important; what are some German bands in space/experimental genres while they could easily be described as Krautrock? (My Solid Ground is a prominent example)

P.S. the album I mentioned above is included in a mp3 selection CD named "Space Rock"!!!!!! it also includes one Hawkwind and a couple of other Hawkwind related material, Alan Davey, Nik Turner etc.

I also think the same thing about Brainticket, Bilek. IMO Cottonwoodhill and Psychonauts are clearly Krautrock. Although Tortoise has some krautrock influences, They where one of the pioneers of another genre.

If you enjoy Krautrock, you might also enjoy Krautrock influenced music...

Check out Hunters & Collectors for example. Smile

Have a read of Alan and Steve Freeman's 'Crack In The Cosmic Egg'. They usually have everything pretty much spot on.

This will give you a little more information about Hunters & Collectors, although there is a wealth of information about them just through google Tongue

A couple fast facts:

Formed the year I was born!

They named themselves after a song by Can

A new band arrived at the archives.

Bardo Pond.

Lovers of Krautrock might want to check this band out. I can recommend their album Lapsed. It's very noisy, but once you get the hang of it then it's all smooth sailing from there.Thumbs Up

I got and listened today to Jesdat - The City Lights. A pretty solid accomplished made my the spanish artists. I liked most of it, especially Blind World.

Now I'm having some thoughts whether it's real Klautrock. I found slim resemblances, much more coming a Progressive Electronic essence, build upon experimentality and upon a technical dark ambiance.
