Topic: Apocalyptica Posted: September 08 2006 at 14:09 |
I haven't really heard much from them, only a few songs here and there, but I was wondering if anyone else thinks they are prog at all. They would either fall into Prog Metal or Post Rock if they were. Apocalyptica features four classically trained cellist, and... not... too many other instruments.
Though they do a lot of covers from bands that many of us would probably hate to even be associated with this website (ie: HIM and Metallica), I think they are worth a professional look into just to see if they are prog.
Check them out. I'm not saying you'll like it or anything but...

Early they used to play metal songs covers only with four cellos but now they have a different music, with drums, percussion and sometimes guest vocal appearances. I think they earlier works are not a bit progressive at all but the lastest works i would classify as progressive metal

Honestly, it never even occurred to me that someone might consider them prog -- It's not post-rock, that's for sure, and I really can't picture them in prog-metal either. However, it's up to the prog-metal specialists to decide this one, so I'll shut up at this point.

I've just heard some of the Metallica covers so I can't make a solid statement. But they do it well !!

I'm a fence sitter on this one, and I seem to have the strictest voting record on the team, so it's not likely you'll hear any strong opions from us.

I love 'em, but they're not really prog in any way except in that they play pretty standard metal tunes on cellos.

There's no way that they are prog.

I'll take that as a "no" then.
