As an experiment I tried it
1 star rating took it down from 4.72 to 4.68 with a review it would go down from 4.68 to 4.14 Dang! I cant get rid of my 1 star rating now. I will have to get this album unless someone can delete my rating. Oh well thats how it works when you rate with or without a review

I agree but how do you police every case? This one is obvious of course but there must be others. Its annoying cos the same guy might try it again and wreck our system |

Thats a massive drop in ratings. Maybe i should get hold of it LOL... I know it would be junk as its a bad tribute band. Anyhoo move along. I think this is the reason Collaborator ratings are weighted so high, so that when we do check out this "rising stars" and review them, their ratings even out the abuse quicker.

Ah I just saw that the Yes tribute album exists already here!
Just delete the other album and all those ratings will go so problem solved - it will frustrate the multi user too and he might give up! btw listening to it now and it really is mediocre.... worth about 2 stars though as I like some of the singing...

To speak only of the top 100 on the front page is short-sighted. All other charts are affected by this manipulation. I know I've bought albums by saying, "Wow, I remember this had a 4.17 on the X genre page! And it's only $10! I'm having it!"
I appreciate the admin team for looking into it and brainstorming possible solutions.  Hopefully I'll have an idea or three, but I'm not as tech savvy as they. |

It's quite something to see how much he has manipulated the list. Just with Various Artists, he managed to bring four album into the top 100 (two of those into the top 50), and 10 total into the top 200.

Todd's idea (if technically feasible) sounds good: exclude from the top-anything albums with ratings only or allow them only after a certain number of proper reviews.

One might set it up so that ratings without reviews have no effect on album ranking (but still affect average rating), but don't know how hard that would be to do.

Possibly, but it could help to lessen ranking manipulation. Of course we could do away with ranked lists and even ratings altogether (not saying we should).

I reviewed both the YES tribute albums that are identical and at least now they are off the top 100 list. But those albums were not very good and worth 2 stars for about 3 decent trax! Loved Judie Tzuke's songs though - she sounded great!

I have just reviewed Jon Anderson's "Angel's Embrace". I have rated it two stars and I have noticed that this is more or less how all the reviewers have rated it, so I've been surprised to see that it's rating is 3.44, so I went to see "all the ratings" and can you guess......?

I believe we should stop ratings without reviews at least for a while.
I believe his shouldn't exist and this manipulation proves it. Maybe allow ratings without reviews but on a separate list that doesn't count for the top 100 list. Iván
