Sure, but the fact that you can come to that conclusion about me is a good thing, not a bad thing. It means you can assess whether my tastes and yours are compatible enough to rely on me as a weathervane for those albums you haven't heard. In this case you've decided that we're just too far apart to see eye-to-eye on much; I'm sure there's other reviewers who make you sit up and take notice when they praise or pan and album you were thinking about getting because you know their taste is in line with yours and you trust their judgement. Equally, I'm sure there's people who find my tastes are compatible with theirs whereas yours just don't make sense to them.

The idea that every review should - or can - be equally useful for every reader is a myth; the usefulness or otherwise of a review is always going to hinge on how closely your tastes and the reviewers' align.

I don't think there even exists any objective basis to derive what is a good album and what is a bad one so the question of construing it to be an objective statement does not arise.

In the former case you can grudgingly admit that there's probably stuff about the album other people like; in the latter case you are expressing bewilderment as to how anyone could like it. It looks like an objective statement but nobody should mistake it for one and everyone would get along a lot smoother if people learned to take such hyperbole in the right spirit.

If I thought that an album had absolutely no redeeming characteristics, I might use that phrase seriously with no bewilderment at all involved.  When I write about music, I try to include both my reaction to the album (the subjective portion) and my evaluation of the merits of the album (the objective portion).  To me, they're related, but they're not the same thing.  I recognize that an album may be very good but that I may not get much out of it, and also that an album may be quite mediocre but I might still enjoy it.  I'm still working on my first review for this site, but that's my general principle for discussing music.  I understand, though, that others have other methods of reviewing, and I respect that.

I haven't heard the new album but Driver's stuff is pretty coherent most of the time.

This is the first time in my life I've been called a "Toby Driver fan."

I love Part the Second, and I thought Bath was good.  Everything else I've heard from this man I didn't care for.  Coyote was so-so.

LOL

I just laugh at the wifey commentary on prog.  My wife has written a few reviews here.  She says she will do a few more, but she never does and I don't pressure her about it.  Kids and all, and she has other things she would rather do (like watching HGTV).

If anyone mysteriously saw some words go missing from their reviews, this guy may have stolen them to make his: http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=803372

You might want to contact him if you're in need of advice on how to build a wall, especially those made of texts.

There have been people who have expressed desires for our reviewers to elaborate their opinions somewhat more than in short and sweet paragraphs lately. At least they'll be happy campers knowing that we now finally have a reviewer here with just that capability.

Ok detail is fine, I am a great believer in it myself, but can someone show that guy had to add paragraphs - My glassballs are doing somersaults trying to read that wall.
