I thought he was just jazz not jazz-rock/fusion, but I've not heard the majority of his work.

One of the best, most influential bassists ever, the late, great Jaco Pastorius certainly belongs here. Thumbs Up

He was a pioneer of the fretless bass, and yes, I see him as a fusion artist.
Where he led, many followed.

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'

I agree that fusion was what he excelled in and while others try ,they just can't manage to reach his technical prowess and chops. What a loss to the world of music. Include him with my blessing, please.
Looking still the same after all these years...

Contributions to jazz rock fusionist additions always welcome!

Jaco is jazz - nah, where did that come from????!!!!! Can't remember Jaco playing double bass which would have been in keeping of jazz bassist.

Jaco wasn't the first fretless bass player - indeed the story goes, to get himself a fretless bass he pulled the frets out of his 4 string with pliers, and filled in the holes with epoxy putty.

The Weather Report is on the site, but the architects of the band aren't....if there is a wave of support for Jaco then there should be a tsunami of support for Zawinul.
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

I would have assumed that Jaco was already here, so much so that I didn't even bother checking...

Fusion? No way. Jazz-Rock more likely for I've seen him perform tributes dedicated to Hendrix for up to 60 minutes at a time, playing solo, whilst the rest of Weather Report remained somewhat redundant... - and rightly so. They were tired and bored, unlike Jaco who was having great pleasure.

"Live in NY, volumes I-IV represent a middle ground of his approach in general whilst his contribution to WR that greatly assisted the band's image is perhaps less important, but earned him a living.

His inclusion in the Archives is only a few years overdue....
