Has Steve Howe been Ripped Off? It seems that the guitar section in Echolyn's "Memoirs From Between" is a little too similiar to Steve Howe's "worm" section" in "Starship Trooper". Just listen to them both, they are amazingly similiar--even the build up with the drumming. Has anyone noticed this. "Suffucating the Bloom" is still a great album despite this fact.

i've always thought that heart of the sunrise was similar to 21st century schizoid man. well some of the riffs.

Okay, I just checked out Memoirs and I can see the Wurm influence there, but it's a far cry from a rip off. The slow ascending, swell effect is pretty common in prog and classical. I'd think it's just a part of composition, not plagiarism. I believe Howe, among others, is an influence on Brett Kull. Check out Cactapus on STB and then listen to Allan Holdsworth's Home from Metal Fatigue. The chording style is very similar, however, I think Mr. Kull throws these bits in to celebrate the influences, bot steal from them. Echolyn also has a large amount of Gentle Giant's signatures throughout their music.
And yes, Suffocating the Bloom is an outstanding record.

danbo, when I realized this similarity I was watching Yes' dvd "Yes Symphonic". At the end of the Dvd when the credits are rolling the piano playing and drumming build into "Worm" (a slightly different version from the album). Watch the DVD, the similarity is much more close than it is on the album.

dont get me started on the biggest ripper offer blaggers off all... led zeppelin openly admit to lots of uncredited borowing.
whole lotta love... all the lyrics and song similarities blagged from the small faces - "you need loving" circa 1966. and do the small faces get any recognition? NO... but led zeppelin become the biggest rock band ever lol
LZ version is better but the small faces one is damn good and they are an incredible band. and were original and no1 hardly knows them. Their spotlight was the classic cockney masterpiece concept album "odgens nut gone flake". they then went on to form the faces with rod stewart. and humble pie.
