Yep, they're the main reasons why i ended up here, pple!!!
Tortoise got me into Krautrock and lighter fusion like late-Weather Report, Spyro Gyra(!!) & Pierre Moerlen's Gong
Supersilent got me hooked on King Crimson, most other prog/fusion, Terje Rydal and ECM
So i am a prime example of someone who got into classic 70s stuff through modern bands......
anyone else wanna share their experineces of coming into prog from the outside? which modern or non-prog bands triggered of this interest and obession???

Well, I was a die-hard Zep head before prog. I also heard Roundabout by Yes on the radio and thought it was good. Then I heard about a band named Rush who was like a cross between the two. Rush hooked me on prog forever. Thank you, Rush.

I've Seen All Good People. I heard it on the radio and I thought, "Now this is what music should strive to be like." I've since broadened my tastes, but it started with that one Yes song.

I watched that on the Songs from Tsongas DVD recently, and, with tears in my eyes, decided that it was probably one of the greatest songs ever written.

My dad handed me Dark Side of the Moon.  Googled "Ummagumma reviews" and ended up here.

Unfourtantly it was Dream Theater for me...
But they led me to Yes...which led me to King Crimson, which led me here and now prog is my favourite genre!

I started my prog excursions with System of a Down. (In my opinion, certainly a prog-related band)
And then I got into Tool, and then The Mars Volta... and then Brian
Eno, and Jean-Michel Jarre, and a million other proggy artists.
