So anyone ever heard the underrated jazz fusion guitarrist Steve Khan?... solist album with the Brecker Brothers and David Sanborn?...

Maybe hes popular in US, i thought his stuff might be here in progarchives since it doesnt sound like mainstream standard jazz, neither pirotecnic jazz like Scott henderson.

anyone heard Tightrope?...

Apart from the Columbia/CBS recordings (i.e. the one you show and the 1979 release Arrows, I have on vinyl - Mike Brecker guesting) of the 70's, at least one for the Japanese market in 1987 on Denon Records Local Color (with keyboardist Rob Mounsey), at least one for the main label of smooth jazz, GRP in 1990, Public Access (with Dave Weckl, Anthony Jackson and Manolo Badrena) and  more recently after what seemed a long lay off period without a release, in 1996 the Latin flavoured You Are Here (again with Mounsey) on the Siam Records label. I'm certain there are more, the ones I list are the only ones that have come my way.

Don't forget he produced two great albums of jazz rock from Django Reinhart's "heir", the young Birelli Lagrene with well known session fusionists (on Blue Note):  Inferno (1986) and Foreign Affair (1987).

Also believe Steve Khan is the son of the  great song-writer/lyricist Sammy Cahn - there being  deliberate policy to spell his surname differently and so not make his way through music on the back of a famous father and famous name.

I have only one Khan disc -- I forget its name (I'm not at home) -- so I'm no authority, but I find it to be just jazz, and not fusion.Ermm

Pretty good though.

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'

Awesome, im talking to Steve lately, hes sending me some stuff from his recent works and some from Columbia years and miscellanous music... I just cant get any of his albums here in Argentina...i might have to order Got my Mental or the Green Field from amazon or something?...

Hes a cool guy, didnt knew about his father...actually got in to his music cause of Folon(Cover artist)...

Been trying to get his stuff lately but no luck... Tightrope are not available in either US nor European Import.

I knew David Sanborn before Steve Khan(some Phil Collins live orchestra concert, instantly loved his sax playing)... but i never heard "steve khan" before ... i found his music original. I've been listening lots of jazz, and jazz/fusion..even JOhn Zorn noise jazz...and havent found anything similar..off course is cause of the Brecker Brothers and David's playing mainly but if you happen to know any similar artist would be great...

First time someone replies "i know steve khan dude..:" \m/ (you are from US?)

He's gone through the changes and would agree his more recent stuff is closer to jazz than jazz rock.

Even with the former US President Bill Clinton speaking at the Labour Party's annual congress yesterday, I still can inform England remains an independent state from the USA!

I guess you're not talking about Jim Kirk's nemesis.
