Wo since when did we add Iron freakin' Maiden!
I love those guys with a passion that none of you can comprehend, but prog???
7th son is the only album I can even consider prog-related, so how did you guys come up with this?
Not that it's a bad thing, I'll be spewing out reviews on about every single album, but I'd love to know the criteria behind this decision.
I think I'll start with powerslave

One of my favorite bands ever, but not nearly prog enough to be here.
Good music doesn't have to be prog.

Used to be huge fan of IM. Have all their albums upto and including Powerslave - after this one I lost interest, as by that time I was already moving towards progressive music in my preferences.
Good band, but got nothing to do with prog.

I think they're prog enough to be here. I mean, they're way more prog than most of those other prog-related bands featured here!!!

This should be in the prog-related lounge. Besides, it's stretching it to call Iron Maiden prog-related, IMHO.

Prog Related
Rock and Pop Bands and Artists after 1970 who were not truly “prog” (as that term is generally and broadly defined, even by the site), but who were clearly not “mainstream” or simply “rock” bands. A wide subgenre that encompasses two kinds of bands/artist, that either consist of progressive artist that strayed away from their progressive roots into mainstream rock or were influenced by progressive rock. Even though the music by these artists is sometimes unrelated it had things in common with prog music in that it was very structured and even adventurous, sometimes hard or heavy, sometimes mellow, strong melodies, good hooks are an integral part of most of the material. Sometimes these artists pioneered other rock genres. Though most of these artist can't really be considered progressive themselves, their relation to progressive music is not to be underestimated. |

I'd say - they are not prog, as many of those other prog-related bands featured here, and many of those not added yet as well.

Okay, Since Maiden has been added to PA.
It should be an easy undertaking to add the Grateful Dead to PA, Considering their psychadeklic counterpart Jefferson Airplane is in the Archives!!!!

They are here! But not directly...
I'm just listening now to an album by Los Canarios (Spain) called "Ciclos" which is based entirely on Vivaldi's 4 Seasons!

Scale of Progginess (IMO):
1 = Regular old jam stuff. Equivalent of Dave Matthews Band in terms of progginess.
10 = Very prog. Maybe not CTTE, but definitely prog.
Junta: 8
Lawn Boy: ???
Rift: ???
A Picture of Nectar: 8
Billy Breathes: 2
Hoist: 1
Story of the Ghost: 4
Farmhouse: 3
Round Room: 4
Undermined: 3
They're in the right place, IMO.

well since the 2 ??? albums are very prog albums as well, as they are 2 of the 4 first albums by the band which were all highly progressive. i would rate them
Lawn Boy: 7
Rift: 9
Junta and APON i pretty much agree with. Ghost should be bumped up one, but the rest i agree too.
after A Picture of Nectar they went to a more jam based style, but then again, YES went commercial after the 70's, Genesis went pop, Pink Floyd went boring, and Gentle Giant went commercial as well. Phish still made great prog songs, at least one per album.
point is they started out as a prog band, but lost some of their touch later one, but not completely. theres tons of prog bands with those same characteristics Edited by darkshade - October 02 2006 at 23:03 |
