I never see Tool or Nine Inch Nails mentioned around here. I think their music would fall into a loose definition of Progressive Rock.

What do you'all think?

I don't know. The first time I heard Thraak by KK for all I knew it could have been a Nine Inch Nails composition if I didn't know it was Bob and the boys back at it!

I can understand the Tool prog connection. NIN is industrial, there may be flashes of prog, here and there, however, I'd not considered them as a prog band. Actually, all these threads arguing over what is prog and what's not is getting a bit dizzy. I'd like to have Max and the "official" reviewers recieve our candidates for consideration and let them make those assumptions.

And Beer. We defintely need more beer threads. I'm fond of Guinness (Stout), Dos Equis Amber and Samuel Adams.

What imports should I look for?

SORRY, much as i like TOOL(and i dont care for NIN) i do not consider them prog,BUT as for beer...mmmmmmm Free Goo!!,i mean BEER!!.Mind numbing intoxicants....a proggers freind!!!(and for those of you who say "you dont need alcohol(or leafy green) to enjoy life"..i say..NUTS TO YOU!!......MMMMMMMMM,NUUUTS!!!

Of course there is still the debate: straight from the bottle or tap. Glass or stein. What is "good head," dirty glass, clean glass. So many choices!!!

Is Beer Prog? I mean, except for Vibrationbaby, we're mainly beer drinkers. Those of us old enough, anyway. So, if a proghole drinks beer while listening to prog, is beer prog? Come on, Peter, give us the reviewers view.

By the way: I prefer beer from a bottle, in most cases, because in some bars they mix the beer in the tap with WATER!

Getting back to Tool and NiN. I know many of you will disagree but I think Tool is Progressive Metal. It's much too experimental to be heavy metal and it's not really Industrial ie. KMFDM and Skinny Puppy. The same argument could be made for NIN although I think of them (him) as a crossover, a fusion of Progressive and Industrial.

I'm not sure about NIN, but I agree with you about Tool. They fit the Prog description in my mind. But I think prog-metal is a very hazy area.
