Paul Sears + Dave Kerman + Red Masque = Nov. 4 @ NJ PROGHOUSE! 

PAUL SEARS (the Muffins) and DAVE KERMAN (Present, 5UUS, Thinking Plague) to play with The Red Masque on November 4. PLUS The Red Masque's Vonorn has major breakthrough in his recovery! 

For those of you following the news about The Red Masque's 
drummer/keys/multi-instrumentalist Brian "Vonorn" Van Korn's illness, we have some very good news to report. He has started walking again last week, aided by a walker, and continues to improve in his strength and abilities. We expect to see him back to his old self in the weeks to come.

The Red Masque has an upcoming gig on November 4 as part of the New Jersey Proghouse series. Vonorn is working on a hospital release by this date (he should have been release weeks ago, but has been mired down in hospital 
red tape; however, it now appears that this red tape is clearing up), but in the meantime, we are bringing in drummer Paul Sears (of The Muffins and Thee Maximalists fame), as well as Dave Kerman (5UUs, Thinking Plague, Present) as an additional guest drummer, to play with the band for this performance. If Vonorn is released he'll be joining us for the show as well. 

Paul, who is also a producer as well as a drummer, has played with a really wide variety of folks ranging from Fred Frith, John Greaves, Peter Blegvad, The Muffins, Daevid Allen, Pepe Gonzalez with Magick Theatre, Thee Maximalists (with Keith Macksoud (of Present), Mark Stanley (of 
Farquar), Yanni Papadopoulus (of Stinking Lizaveta), Werbinox, Jim Rezek , Cyndee Lee Rule, Henry Kaiser, Bill Laswell - way before he was a producer) several ex MAGMA members, PRESENT, Clearlight, Marshall Allen from the Sun RA Arkestra, to festival jams with guitarists Mike Keneally 
and Glenn Phillips in 2005, and, in ancient history Bob E Rock & Steve Stills long ago in nightclubs in Washington DC and a zillion others. 

Most recently, Paul with The Muffins played a spellbinding performance at the sold-out 2005 Northeast Art Rock Festival (NEARFest) in Bethlehem, PA, as well as appearing at various Prog Day festivals in North Carolina (read 
about the Muffins at http://www.paulsears.net/muffins/), and is currently gigging with Thee Maximalists. The Muffins are also working on a new CD. Read more about Paul here: http://www.paulsears.net. 

Dave Kerman is no stranger to the avant garde, having formed 5UUs as well as performed in Present, Avhak, Thinking Plague, Bob Drake, Blast, and many, many other projects; and is known to have a special fondness for 
Barbie Dolls.... mutilated Barbie Dolls ;) 

Most recently, he performed with Present at NEARFest 2005 as well as the rest of their 2005 and 2006 tours. He will also be performing at the innaugral 2007 Rock-In-Opposition Festival in France. David is also the owner of RER USA, the North American distributor of ReR Megacorp, a twenty

Opening for The Red Masque will be the New York band Skeleton Breath. According to the band's bio: "Not just your average Middle Eastern-disco- prog metal-meets-noise-surf- Klezmer-bass-drum- violin-trio, skeletonbreath also has a modest repertoire of Patsy Cline covers." See

	The Red Masque The Red Masque is an original avant rock band from the Philadelphia area. Part art, part alchemy, the group's experimental songwriting style is both angular and eerie, accented by freeform space rock improvisations, intricate acoustics, dark atmospherics and chunky riffs. Unconventional and eccentric in musical form, the sophisticatedly sinister The Red Masque fuses together such disparate musical references as horror movie soundtracks, rock-in-opposition, zeuhl, heavy rock, gothic, psychedelia and kraut rock. Founded in February 2001 by bassist/keyboardist Brandon Ross and vocalist Lynnette Shelley, the Red Masque went through several lineup changes over the years, but its intent and integrity has always remained the same. The band's goal was, and is, to create original music that pushes the envelope of the listener's expectations. With such influences as Magma, King Crimson, Hawkwind, Gong, Pink Floyd, Bauhaus, Art Bears, and Van Der Graaf Generator, The Red Masque's compositions are as intense as they are unique. One of the group's first concerts was at the Prelude to the North East Art Rock Festival (NEARFest) in 2001 where they performed with the likes of Land of Chocolate and Wine of Nails). Other notable shows include the 2005 Rogue Independent Music Festival in Atlanta, where the band headlined on Saturday night; the 2001 World Con Science Fiction Convention, the New Jersey proghouse series, Orion Studios in Baltimore; the Philadelphia Landing Pad Space Rock Festival; and The Gate to Moonbase Alpha concert series at the Rotunda in Philadelphia; as well as organized and performed in the 2002 and 2003 Philadelphia Underground Music and Culture Festival. The Red Masque has also opened up for notable performers and musicians such as Chris Cutler (Henry Cow, Art Bears), The Muffins, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and Present. Steadily growing an audience within the underground progressive and psychedelic music communities for their uncompromising and intense style of music, The Red Masque have released to date one EP ("Death of the Red Masque" in 2001), and two albums ("Victoria and the Haruspex" in 2002 and "Feathers for Flesh" in 2004). "Feathers for Flesh" was released through the Big Balloon Music label out of Washington state and garnered critical reviews in the press, including Wire Magazine (issue no. 248), Harmonie Magazine, Progresiste Magazine, iO Pages, Colussus Magazine, Tarkus Magazine, Progression Magazine, Expose Magazine, and various online newsletters, blogs, and review sites. Interviews in various progressive music media also followed, including Progression Magazine and Expose Magazine. The band is currently working on a third album, "Fossil Eyes", which is due to be released with an independent avant garde label (to be announced).
