I've been really getting into this band lately. Flashes of Yes and Genesis, Glass Hammer has really come into their own as a classic Americian symphonic prog band. I'll spare you the cyber droolings over Susie Bogdanowic.

My favorite, however, is Shadowlands. The ladies really take Glass Hammer's sound to another level. Excellent cover of Fogelberg's "Longer"!, and "Run Linsette" is still one of my favorites.

I've only heard the last 3 on the list. At the moment I'd go for The Inconsolable Secret. Lex Rex is also good, but Shadowlands is spoiled for me by overloud keyboard, particularly on the potentially great "Run Lisette".

Understood. The puncuated keys are what I like about it, though.

Chronometree could've been great; however, the old vocalist is really hard to listen to. Man alive, I thought I'd go nuts listening to that whiney voice.

I like most Chronometree and The Inconsolable Secret the most. I don't mind the vocals in CHronometree as much, but it could have been better, you are right.
The cd with the two long epics in "Secret" is really great, in my opinion.

I like most of their catalog. The Inconsolable Secret is by far my favorite. If you haven't seen the Live at Belmont DVD it is definitely worth a look. I pre-ordered & got an autographed copy. These guys are well in tune with & know their audience. They're regular guys (& girls) who haven't forgotten where they came from.

Shadowlands is a superb album,no weak tracks at all.My favorite is the epic Behind the Great Beyond.

Lex Rex is awesome too,and the first disc of The Inconsolable Secret is good, but disc 2 contains too much filler that I could have done without.

I've been through Chattanooga, TN a few times. Last place on earth you'd think a fine prog band would come from.

I got my autographed copy of the DVD too and it's one of my favorites. I like how they put the music first and omit the video gimmickry and special efx. I'd just as soon see the show than a bunch of video games.

Lex Rex (despite the annoying narrative between tracks).I love the track 'Tales Of The Great Wars' especially.
TIS suffers from a seriously boring second disc although the first disc contains some very fine modern symp prog.Shadowlands and Chronomotree are both solid albums that are close to Lex Rex.I havn't heard anything else by them.

I love Lex Rex.  But I agree with richardh, the narration is a drag.

The only album I have from Glass Hammer is the Inconsolable Secret, I find it to be incredibly disappointing, I was expecting this band to be so much better.

Then pick up Lex Rex or Shadowlands. The latter might be good because as a concept album, Lex Rex does include a bit of cheesiness; but, it's a darn fine album.

Lex Rex is the best I've heard so far - a lot like Yes's Going for the One, and almost that excellent.

Inconsolable Secret should have been called the Inconsolable Filler - narry a hook nor an exciting instrumental passage to be found. I could only get through it once.

Once is hardly enuf to judge that album.  It is a grower.  Some of disk two can drag, but it will reveal itself if you give it time.  Do you think at this point in their career they simply wanted to make an album with a few hooks that would grab the listener after one listen?  I think they are beyond that.

Has anyone read the poem the album is based on all the way through?  Haven't gotten around to it yet.  Wondered if you found it initeresting.

ClapClap Not only great music but a great bunch of talented guys and gals who really care about their audience. I was also fortunate enought to get an autographed "Live at Belmont" DVD. Very entertaining piece of work and since it is most unlikely I will ever get to see them live, the DVD's certainly make the music more "real" for me. Oh - I like most of their work but "Lex Rex" is my favourite by a micron over "The Inconsolable Secret".Big smile

I had to go with The Inconsolable Secret but Lex Rex was a close second.
