Topic: Tower Records going out of business? Posted: October 13 2006 at 22:26 |
The Tower Records near me is going out of business. I am wondering if this is true of the whole chain or just the one in my location? While I still had to go online if I wanted something obscure, Tower records definatly had a good selection from almost all the well and fairly well known Prog and Metal bands. Sad to see them go, at least I was able to pick up a Hawkwind - Stonehenge Free Festival 1984 and Ozric Tentacles Pongmasters Ball dvd for cheap in their going out of business sale.

That *would* be too bad-- good for DVDs, too, and just browsing. It's possible that Borders, Virgin, etc. are pushing them out. Haven't noticed my local ones disappearing luckily...

They all are closing as far as I know. We don't have any of them here, but I read about it on RYM.

They disappeared in the UK a few years ago. To me, they seemed to take their eye off the ball, and forgot to move with the times.
Pity, when they arrived they were a breath of fresh air.

I visited one of the locations that was closing last week, the CD's and DVD's were 10% off. I worked for a record store chain that went bankrupt and closed almost all of their stores a few years ago. During the liquidation we went all they way to 90% off, we even sold the fixtures, TV's and Stereo equipment.

here in sSngapore Tower opened w a big bang in 1993 and even had a second store by late 90s.........they were the first international record megastore in Singapore, followed by HMV and Borders.
They were really imot in making available lotsa new exciting musicks to us but as time went by i think they just lost the plot and were stocking really bad rubbish.....
v sad......they're all gone now......the ones in Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan are all gone too!!!

although i'm sad to see the one in my area closing, i was still a
little disappointed to see their 'going out of business sale' was only
10% off cds and dvds.

W00t. They did have a good selection, but the prices are too high. I'm glad to see them go.

I won't miss it, I went by the local one and after their "sale" price most of their stuff was at least twice what I would normally pay.
