Always held this was a Carla Bley album with Nick Mason guesting on drums and Robert Wyatt providing his unique form of vocals. Carla Bley has produced an excellent avant jazz album approximately annually, in similar mode for over 20 years - check out her acclaimed Escalator The Hill.

of course not.  David Gilmour has a second guitarist because he overdubbs himself when recording many times.  Being the perfectionists that they are, Gilmour has a second guitarist to make the music sound more like the recording when playing live.  Mason never overdubbed himself.

Collins admitted he'd be incapable of playing some of those tricker tracks (I think he meant Apocalypse in 9/8)

I hope he wasn't talking about Apocalypse in 9/8.  It's not that technically challenging, it's the rhythms, content, and timing that make it tough.  If he can't play it anymore, it's not because he lost the physical ability to play it, but the mental ability, and old age isn't an excuse for that.

I think that Collins could really play all those old Prog songs, but he is not motivated to do it. It seems that he and the other two member of Genesis are not motivated to play the old songs anymore in a proper way, except in the form of medleys.

I find it hard to believe that Nick Mason never did any overdubs. If he didn't, he must have been an amazing drummer in the studio, shame he can't play at gigs to that standard.

Perhaps Pink Floyd use percussionists live to make the music more like the recordings (which have often featured additional percussionists).

Why do you think Pink Floyd had such elaborate visual effects in their live performances?  It was to draw attention from the fact they couldn't actually play their music without recording devices.
