I was just wondering whether anyone listened to IDM (intelligent dance
music). I can imagine that a few people may hate it here but what the
heck.
If you don't have a clue what I'm talking about then have a look at this Wiki article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_dance_music Here are some examples: Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, Brain Eno (the pioneer of ambient music). So what do you think of it? |

I really like it. Since these artists aren't allowed into the archives (which makes much sense IMO), I invite all fans of IDM to enter these artists into my database on www.progtology.com - it's not limited to Rock music.

Leftfield, Underworld, Fluke, LFO, Orbital are other killer IDM acts...

Shpongle's latest is simply astonishingly perfect. I dig some IDM, although I DO find Aphex Twin somewhat tedious after a while. Edited by Empathy - November 10 2006 at 16:58 |

Shpongle actually worked with a prog (related) artist... Alan Parsons (really neither the band nor the project) on A Valid Path.
Not that that made it good.

Wow. I'm quite surprised at the amount of people liking IDM. I can't imagine there being any of the older fans digging it, especially those into the classics like CTTE and SEBTP, but please prove me wrong.
and yes it woiuld be wrong to put these bands on the archive. |

Depends on what you define as "older". I was technically alive when both the albums you mention came out. Granted, I was 1 year old. But I love modern music as much as I love classic prog. It's all about being open minded. |

It's great, I like Autechre quite a bit too.

Consider yourself proved wrong... Shpongle & Infected Mushroom have been mentioned before, but I'd also put in artists like Eskimo & Hallucinogen (who has done some great re-mixing work with the Ozrics); Prodigal Sun are well worth checking out, too, as is S.U.N. Project - both the latter combine IDM with infectious guitar work and are well worth seeing live... |

I would consider Shpongle progressive electronic - they encompass so many styles and ideas in their music it's definitely beyond most other electronic music. Not to mention some pieces of theirs are in weird time signatures (okay, maybe not the absolute qualifier, but it certainly helps). Infected Mushroom I don't quite consider progressive electronic but definitely related to prog in their use of different styles.
