Opeth is an obvious favorite, but I prefer Orphaned Land... Their gig is definitely better than Opeth's... both are very cool though... Mabool is a masterpiece. MASTERPIECEEE!!! |

DAMN YOU! My 2 favourite bands I cannot coose they both have qualities I love! But Im choosing the 'Land because they need publicity and the word needs to be spread. I saw them at ProgpowerUK this march and they blew me away, Id never heard of them before but I feel in love with their muisic after 1 song, the fire, the passion, the anger, the ideas, I rushed out and brought Mabool on the desk when they were done then chattd to Uri and Matti for abit when I bumped into them wandering the venue.
Yeah so as much as I hate the person for puting this pool up Im going for the Mighty Orphaned Land.
It is good to see the 'land geting recognition, more people need to find this amazing band! Edited by Space Dimentia - November 19 2006 at 10:37 |

The same that MikeEnRegalia. Orphaned Land are great, but Opeth made awesome albums for almost ten years. Anyway, Orphaned Land needs publicityand for anyone who enjoys Opeth it's an excelent new band to listen; Mabool it's a mindblowing album. |

Voted for Opeth, for reasons already given by others. And yes, Mabool is amazing.
Any word on the new Orphaned Land album, in terms of possible release date? I went to their website, and the closest thing I could find was a post by a band member from Jan 2006 saying the album is "far from done". |

I don't particularly like either, but Orphaned Land is from Israel, so I gave them the vote.

I don't know, I think word is that Kobi and the lads are looking for about march next year but if they are far from done that may be pushed back abit.
I did try an contact Yossi (I have been talking to him for alil while) but I haven't heard anything, probably coz he is recording.
But yeah I love both bands so this was a horrible poll!
Id love to see these guys hook up an do and album, with Steve Wilson producing (as he is prducing OL's new album and as we know the regular proucer for Opeth), that I would pay money to see, hear and buy maybe they should call it Orphned Opeth or Opeth Land or OOL
But who here agrees with me that both Opeth and Orphand Land (if not OL then Yossi in partcular) should release just a classical guitar album because both use the classical guitar in their woirks and both pull it off amazingly! Like the firsr 3 mins of To bid you Farewell should be a classical piece or a piece of music just on its own, and just look at Rainbow/The Ressurection on Mabool wonderful playing there from Yossi

Opeth,easily.
I really like Orphaned Land. They are highly original and I love their use of Middle Eastern influences and instrumentation, but Opeth have a bigger and consistently better catalogue of music. |

I wouldn't call Wilson their "regular producer".He produced 3 of their best albums, but he didn't produce Ghost Reveries. |

Hmm....I think I'm abstaining. I own Opeth's catalogue; whereas, I've only heard a few tracks from Orphaned Land. I really haven't heard enough to judge them. That said, if the quality I heard in the few .mp3 files I got off of their website carries throughout Orphaned Land's catalogue, you, sir, are a bad, bad, dirty little man for creating this poll :)

I saw Opeth live at the Round House a couple of weeks back. Its for their live DVD. They rocked so much they definately need to become a classic prog/deathmetal/jazz band. Vote for em!

I only have Mabool by Orphaned Land, but on the other hand I've most Opeth's back catalogue and the decision is actually quite simpel: Opeth. Can't explain it, but Mabool is too oriental for my taste from time to time and too little metal at other times..

Opeth without a doubt. Every album they've released is genius, save maybe Orchid and Deliverance. Orphaned Land are great, but I feel that the Middle Eastern influences are going to get very old, very fast. Mabool was great, but I think the innovation stops there. It's intriguing to hear them in a prog/death metal band, but I don't see them going any further.
Opeth has consistently pounded out better and better material. Mikael Akerfeldt = God.
