Sorry no idea, but Olav above posted that more than 900 were added up to that point. I don't know how he counted those, though, and while the number he gave isn't surprising, it is admirable. 

Even with the margin of error of one day (Rubycone was for me the last band added in 2009, at 23:10, but for Raff for instance, any new band added during the next hours would still count as 2009 additions), the id numbers show me that 922 bands were added this year. (Peak in January 2009 - hey! me and T.Rox added this one  - Rubycone - December 2009)

I don't remember any band being removed (thus altering the id number continuity), and I know that accidental duplicate entries were used for a new band.
