Topic: Fields Of The Nephilim Posted: November 28 2006 at 19:13 |
The poll is less important. What's the main thing is the band itself and its leader Carl McCoy. When I first heard of them, I did not think of the term I later heard applied to them Goth and I am glad I wasn't exposed to that mind shaping, so I was able to paint a picture of the band on my own. Dark, sombre, depressive, eerie and sometimes "frightening", this band's music in their two studio releases Nephilim and Elizium met the appropriate receptors in my brain and got me hooked. I especially like Last Exit For The Lost, both musically and lyrically. The music there gradually builds up culminating in a peak of emotions and sound accompanied by the tortured voice of McCoy's "Would you pay life's pleasures to see me?" But all songs in this album are good in my opinion and it is my favourite from them. What are your thoughts of this band and their releases? What do you think of their latest Mourning Sun? I know some people who hate them and can't stand their sound and pose, but that's fine with me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. (besides I am used to people thinking of me as having bad or weird taste in music). Their website: www.fields-of-the-nephilim.com

I only have 'Elizium' which is one of my all-time favourite cd's. I still need to get more of their stuff.

^^^ If you love Elizium, you will definitely love Nephilim. So I see not many fans out there... Hmmm... maybe this is why they remain an underground band...

^^^ Yes, it is a band that can appeal to people here. Oh, well. Maybe someone watching this thread might take interest.

Aha - a thread devoted to the only band to have made it big(ish) from my home town of Stevenage Mind you - they need a bit of a dusting.

You know Jim, I expected few replies, but I did not imagine that one of those would be from you... You like them, or merely know them?

At least their Moonchild doesn't have 10 minutes of pointless noodling.

Mourning Sun - great album, dark atmosphere and fantastic vocals.
What about XIII Stoleti?

^^^^ Not heard enough of XIII Stoleti but I intend on doing so (another "goth" rock band, and they are Czech for those wondering... if any)

Elizium, but The Nephilim is also good. I saw them twice on the Elizium tour and once on Dawnrazor. I was quite a fan once upon a time. They always sounded so hot live! I used to love getting beaten sh!tless in the goth 'moshpit' to 'Preacher Man'
