Some of my personal favorite Gabriel era Genesis tunes. Out of all of these, however, the more I hear "Cinema Show", the more it's becoming a favorite out of all of their albums. Just a great song with excellent keys from Banks.

Quite a hard choice this one, between The Musical Box and The Cinema Show. In fact, it should really be a dead heat. But in the end I voted for The Musical Box. I think the start of that song is one of my all time favourite starts. Visions Of Angels is good, of course, but is probably my least favourite track on Trespass. Now, if you had put White Mountain on the list, I would have been stumped! (In fact, that might have got my vote!) |

I do like "White Mountain" a lot, too. Off Trespass, it's a close race between "Visions Of Angels" and "White Mountain". For some reason, I haven't been able to get into "The Knife" that much. Maybe I was expecting too much from everyone's reviews about it.
Like I said, these are all of my favorites. "Cinema Show" is just pure magic. E |

Cinema show is one of their three best overall (although Firth of fifth
from the same album is even better) - 10/10 on the DP scale.
The musical box is a great song (9/10) and easily the best song of NC. White mountain (8/10) is no competition for the othe two, and loses out to Stagnation (9/10) frmo the same album. All IMHO of course. |

Yeah, probably should've included "Firth Of Fifth", too. E |

Cinema Show, by no means my favourite from Selling England (I prefer Dancing with the Moonlit Knight, Firth of Fifth, and Battle of Epping Forest) but it'sstill a beautiful track and just pips The Musical Box at the post. I guess that just goes to show how great an album Selling really is.

The Cinema Show (as well as Firth of Fifth) is Genesis at its best for me. I never grow tired of it. Not only do I consider The Cinema Show amongst the very creme de la creme of Genesis, I think it's amongst the greatest songs of Prog (according to my particular tastes) I know.
Of Gabriel-era Genesis, my favourites (limited to two songs off my preferred albums) are as follows: Trespass - White Mountain and Stagnation
Nursery Cryme - The Musical Box and The Fountain of Salmacis
Foxtrot - Supper's Ready and Can-Utility...
Selling England... - The Cinema Show and Firth of Fifth
The Lamb... - The Lamia and In the Cage
Think I might do a Genesis poll now on that theme -- hopefully you don't mind my using this poll as inspiration. |

Ouch! Another tough one... mmmmmmh... let me think... Musical Box... just because it was the first Gabriel-era song that I heard and immediatly I was hypnotized by his voice and Hackett guitars and Banks keyboards...

Archetypal pre-Lamb Peter Gabriel tour-de-force vs. one of the loveliest ever examples of early Genesis' instrumental and compositional abilities?
I'll write off Visions of Angels as an embarrassingly silly affair with nonetheless georgeous verse vocal melodies, but past that I'm stumped. |

Not one of the choices, but a good tune.
