Due to a unforeseen medical reason Proto-kaw has cancelled their appearance at Baja-Prog:

From Lynn Meridth, P-K's singer,  on P-K's Yahoo board:

Wanted to let you all know that we did have to cancel
our Baja show due to a medical situation with one of
our members. The situation is not serious, but the
timing of it will not allow us to play the Baja show
with one of our members. We will however play the
Beaumont show in KC. The sitution does not affect that
date.

Sorry for the inconvenience and we hope to see some of
you in KC.

Also.... in case you didn't already know.... we are
preparing to go back to the studio this Spring for the
next cd.... Kerry is finalizing the first round of
tunes we'll start to record soon.

And finally.... Watch the Carson Daly Show on Thur
nite Feb 1st.... Guitarist Andy McKee is playing and
will possibly be wearing a Proto Kaw Shirt... He
requested to wear it and contacted our Sound Man Dave
Henry who sent him one to wear.

We'll keep you posted!

Thx
Lynn

I would bet my bottom dollar that there is no direct flight in there without a switch in SD without costing an arm and a leg.

It would be cheaper to rent a car in SD and drive the hour and a half then it would to get a flight into Mexacali.  Just my thoughts.

Edit: I just checked out a couple of things Chicago to Mexacali is around $800 and the shortest flight time is 17 hours with two switches!  When I went from Chicago to SD it was like $250 and 4 hours flight time direct.  I am assuming the guy would rent a car anyway so it it would seem reasonable to get it in SD and drive to Mexacali about 1.5 hours east of SD across from Calixeco.  I bet the guy would be there in less than 7 hours even getting the car and bags.

Thanks for the help. This trip is starting to sound very expensive, but it would be an awesome spring break for me. Maybe Ill make a road trip out of it.

Whats the closest airport to ProgFest? I'd be flying from Chicago if that makes a difference.

I'm pretty close, and VPP passes are only $125, which is great considering it covers the whole festival and then some. I don't know what my schedule look like that far ahead, but I would love to go, if only to see Focus, Univers Zero and Rudess/Morgenstein. I bet I'd find a few new groups to add to my album collection too.

I've only heard of a few bands from that list, but it sounds like a good event.

It would be great to join some ProgArchives Members there in the BajaProg, I got still some limitations, I have no vacations, I'm trying to convince my boss to absent those 4 days, So memowakeman and me are still pending for confirmation.

I'd like to go to NEARfest this year (I'm about 45 minutes away), but I don't have my license yet. Embarrassed  I might try to convince my parents to give me a ride, but I'm sure they'll be against it.  Oh well, I'm going next year for sure!

I'm pretty sure I'll be there!  I'll be driving from Ventura County, just north of L.A..  I've been to BajaProg three times now.  It's always a great time!
