Not very helpful regarding the album's quality (which we already know of course) and partly senseless review of the site...

5 stars The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a great Swan Song for Peter Gabriel. The first song which is the title song samples Felix Mendelsshon's 'A Midsummer Nights Dream'. It is a must for Prog-Rock. It mentons life in New York and it's almost a rock-opera. This could've been a good rock-opera play. And I'm surprised that the Who isn't mentioned as a proto-prog band. They made 'Tommy' and that album was a ground-breaking album because of that!

Even prog is rooted in the blues, at some point...

4 stars I wish I could give 4.5 stars.. but since I cant. this album gets 4 stars. Not as experimental as the album that follows it, but still an excellent listen, somewhat proggy, some what rockin, and yet very well thought out.

3 stars I am totally agree with the "Dalezilla" review. Word by word these are my thoughts about this DVD, so: Why to write more?

Strongly recommended for Dream Theater fans, but not for the occasional listener. 3 stars.

1 stars ha ha there was a momentery lapse of reason first and then this disastour,without rodger where are they,i think they accepted the fact that the driving force has left the band,they are out of ideas,this was their last one,a great day for freedom is a prime example of this,trying to imitate rodgers ideas,and in what do you want from me,dave is admitting retirement, while rodgers brain is still creating,the divisionbell is a sellout with no risk taking,the floyd are old and probably in pyjamas and slippers,while rodger like bowie is timeless,the division bell?more like sell out hell!

 

I found this review to be somewhat irrational. The reviewer states that this album was a sellout and the songs weren't good, but doesn't give any reason why he thinks that, he insults the remaining members of Pink Floyd, he spells Roger Water's name wrong, and the review is hard to read.

CITY BOY — City Boy
Review by tarmac

4 stars Came to Birmingham in 1975 and was taken to see City Boy at Barbarella's. Never looked back for the next two years. Loved the first two albums - still got them. Oddball Dance is simply magic, The Violin is one of the best romantic songs ever written.

THRESHOLD — Extinct Instinct

4 stars Creed that little groups Prog-metal only can therefore interesting for a public adept person to the Progressive ones, but Threshold is sure one of these! In fact "Extinct Instinct" will capture and song like "Forever", "Virtual Isolation", "Clear", "Life Flow" and "Exposed" are not born every day, for which... On purpose beyond to the entire group a special mention it goes to Damian Wilson, one of the best voices of metal and progressive ones. Not a masterpiece, but an absolute disc sure. It makes it yours you, against every prejudgement!

THRESHOLD — Extinct Instinct

5 stars The Prog Metal is today the Prog! Said this the Threshold I am one of the fundamental band for this genre. "Extinct Instinct" is a really incredible album! And not only because the songs they are all of the masterpieces, but also because it is very warm (do not like in a lot of cases in the Prog Metal). We say immediately that it is Karl Groom than Nick Midson are two excelling guitarists, even if not like very other technicians, however have a really sole feeling and also Damian wilson is an excellent singer. You song like "Exposed", "Eat The Unicorn", "Forever", "Virtual Isolation" or "Clear" done not understand all of the days of to listen to them (and I believe not even of to write them!). When I gained it (in 1997) I did not know a lot of the Prog Metal, but thanks to this fundamental masterpiece I am enchanted me all of the Prog!

4 stars PART OF THE CHAOS, FOREVER

"Extinct Instinct" did not be alone the first Threshold's album but also the first Prog Metal's album that I bought. Logical I is specially bound to this album.

It sets to music simple and directed it is the restrained one in this CD. Nevertheless it is also technical and exciting. What it hits it is a heaviness that remembers certain things of Black Sabbath filtrered however from solids measure of Yes and the voice of Damian Wilson that is very attractive. The better things are surely: "Exposed", "Eat The Unicorn", Forever" (excellent ballad), "Virtual Isolation", "Clear" and "Part Of The Chaos".

Not a masterpiece... But there it goes close.

He has some interesting view Tony, but I can't say I agree with a lot of them. He seems more concerned that a review should be entertaining rather than informative. That may be the case for the superficial reviews which can be read in music magazines, but personally I'd rather read a review which told me something about the album, rather than one which just makes me laugh.
 
He also seems to be of the opinion that if you don't write to a professional standard, you shouldn't be writing reviews.

Absolutely right. The changes he proposed didn't add any content to the original statements. Yes, they were more entertaining to read, but so what? Reviews should be informational, not just 'nicely formatted data'.  Besides, he seems to forget that not all of us are alphabet wizards. I happen to like writing, and (looking at his reviews) so does someone like ClemOfNazareth, but does that make our reviews better, information wise that is? I guess not...
Even prog is rooted in the blues, at some point...

I think he's referring to professional reviewers or at least "music editors" in newspapers and magazines.Not amateur enthusiasts.
