Just a quick and unimaginative poll....  Which album do you like most?  I only know the latter two albums, and of those I prefer Quarante Jours.  A very good album, I think.

Like you I have the two last ones.
I love Novo Sub Sole a lot and voted for it, but Sinai is excellent.
I am interested in listening to their earlier ones as well.
They are related to Thork which is not sounding like them and are less good in my opinion.
This is a band which is goes unnoticed here, and for no good reason.
I wonder when we will hear new stuff from them.
They are along with Nemo, Taal, NeBeLNeST and Maldoror my modern French prog favourites (there are others as well, some have broken up).

Thanks Avestin, and a great list of modern French bands you mentioned (I particularly like Taal, Maldoror, and Nemo, but NeBeLeST is very good too from what I've heard).

Haven't heard Thork.

I've also only heard the last two albums and I prefer Quarante jours sur le Sinai out of those but both are excellent.

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

Same here with regards to NIL - only last two albums - both great, but I like "40 days" better.
Which album by Thork you heard? I have "weila" and this is one of the darkest albums I heard - would not think they related to Nil as they sound completely different.

I have only heard 'Nil Novo Sub Sole' (so it would be a little unfair to vote); which I personally think is stunning. It is a shame they are not more widely acclaimed.

I'm now off to try and find myself some Thork.

They tend to sound quite a little a lot like Halloween.

¿What is a Thork? (asking in fear).

Yep, it's Weila I have as well. Dark indeed. David and Samuel Maurin of Nil are the ones responsible for Thork.

Has anyone noticed how many French bands (old and new) have brothers in the lineup and usually the founding members?

I think I should pay more attention to line-ups and remember musicians family names... But what a difference between these two (I mean Thork and Nil)!

...and right you are - it looks like French seem to treat it like a family business..

My vote goes for Quarante Jours Sur Le Sinai, it's my all time favourite and there is truly no other record that I have spinned so much. Novo Sub Sole gets very close to it and is better in some point of view, Quarante still takes it for the wonderful and unique atmosphere it has. And what's the miracle - still after many years of listening, it just gets Better!

Do yourself a favour and get one of their two last albums. In my opinion, so much better than Porcupine Tree (but again, I'll be in a minority and saying such a thing about PT is blasphemy to many).

If you don't find it, let me know (PM me).

I loved Nil Novo Sub Sole. It was deep, dark, progressive as hell, artistic till the utmost squeeze. Really an impressive record. I just wish I'd find more NIL, I couldn't purchase anything but this one.

I have never heard of them, but Im actually listening to the song here in PA. Sounds good so far, and an album with just two epics... mmm, juicy! Will have to get me some of that
