Dark Matter is so sick. I was considering it. Your list has a very positive feel to it, One, Snow, Live in America, Brave, Stardust are we, but Dark Matter of all of them seems to be the...er...darkest.

"The hand of God defends America!" Seems pretty positive at first glance, but is it antagonistically facetious?

Yes, I completely agree! I can't really say that for all of their stuff, but BTCS is very progressive. So dark, brooding, and epic...it's probably my second favorite DMB disc behind Under The Table And Dreaming.

It's my favourite bar none. UTTAD is up there, Crash is a tad better maybe imo.

I've often wondered if Dave should almost be prog related or something. Can't be bothered to press the issue though...

Gaston,

Aside from the first 3 entries, this list is very organic and could change in 10 minutes (if it hasn't already).

Actually, the three CD's by Marillion are pretty dark in and of themselves. Brave is a given because of it's subject matter and how there's a 'grit' about it; however, Afraid Of Sunlight is very melancholy and painful. In some ways, it could be even darker than Brave, in spite of it's airy and ethereal sound. And as for Marbles, there's a theme throughout the disc that has a dark mysticism about it. Hogarth has said that it wasn't intentional, but the songs on Marbles have a correlation that borders insanity or losing one's 'marbles'.

The rest, however, are a bit light in nature. Maybe with the exception of Moving Pictures.

I have a 4 song promo copy with an acoustic version of "Crash (Into Me)", which he does with Tim Reynolds that is stunning. I don't play Crash or Everyday as often, though. Maybe I should.

"The Best Of What's Around" and "Typical Situation" are two of my favorite DMB songs. And it's his first and since I've liked him since his beginnings, it holds a special place in my heart.

Wow, this might change every day!,

but I Think It'd be something like this (in no particular order):

1. Anglagard - Hybris
2. Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
3. Sinkadus - Aurum Nostrum
4. Renaissance - Sheherazade and Other Stories
5. Harmonium - Si on Avait Besoin d'une Cinquième Saison
6. Yes - Close To The Edge
7. Gentle Giant - In A Glass House
8. Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother
9. King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King
10. Mike Oldfield - Hergest Ridge

There's a lot more just behind them but I can't write them (based on this thread: only ten !!)

-Peace

Man, I need to break that disc out more often.

DMB are awesome, especially that album. But their live stuff is even more proggy, the live version of "The Stone" reminds me so much of KC.

I think I'd like to have talking books:

Greg Lake reading "How To Find Food And Water On Any Deserted Island"

Geddy Lee reading "How To Build A Seaworthy Watercraft Out Of Stuff You Can Find On A Desert Island"

Peter Gabriel reading "How To Navigate By The Sun And Stars" (with star chart and foldout map showing current flow)

Jon Anderson reading "How To Use This CD As A Mirror To Signal Search Planes And Rescue Boats"

David Gilmore reading "How To Occupy Your Time And Keep Your Mind Active Whilst Waiting To Be Rescued"

Phil Collins "How To Sell Your Story To Hollywood And Make A Lot Of Money"

edit: Oops, I guess that last one isn't prog.

Yeah, very much so. When not constrained by the four walls of a studio, this band lets it fly even more. I just may have to venture on over and make a suggestion.

I still need to get the newest one, but Live At Folsom Field is my favorite.

Their new album is rather weak, but their newest live album, "Weekend On The Rocks" is very impressive, the new material sounds so much better in a live setting. Plus, they've recruited a keyboardist and a trumpet player, it makes their jamming a lot more interesting.

The newest one definitely isn't my favorite; but, I do like how they threw caution to the wind. They broke away from their usual recipe and tried something different.

I do need to pick up that new live one sometime, though.

10 CDs are actually generous compared to all the older threads dealing with this subject.

                    Good one Frasse

                    KC - ITCOTCK
GYBE - Lift Yr. Skinny Wrists
                    Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
                    Pink Floyd - The Wall
                    Pink Floyd - Meddle
                    Genesis - SEBTP
                    Can - Tago Mago
DT - Scenes from a Memory
                    TMV - De-Loused
Yes - Close to the Edge

If it wasn't just prog then there would be some Aphex Twin and Jazz in there. Probably at the expense of TMV and DT
